Over 12,000 pounds of the pork product from Canada have been recalled after federal regulators slapped it with their highest-risk alert.<\/p>\n
The US Department of Agriculture issued the recall affecting product from Maple Leaf Foods of Mississauga, Ontario, on grounds it never underwent \u201cimport reinspection into the United States.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n The US government advised consumers to discard certain packages of bacon imported from Canada. USDA<\/p>\n The recall was designated \u201cClass I,\u201d the USDA\u2019s most grave category.<\/p>\n The Canadian importer\u2019s Illinois facility recalled 12-ounce vacuum packages of \u201cRoyale Natural Applewood Smoked uncured bacon product\u201d and 12-ounce vacuum packages of \u201cTop Valu uncured Hardwood Smoked bacon product,\u201d according to the Friday advisory.<\/p>\n USDA\u2019s Food Safety and Inspection Service said it discovered the violation during \u201croutine inspection activities,\u201d adding that there have been no reports of illnesses linked to the bacon.<\/p>\n The recalled product had been shipped to stores in Idaho, Oregon and Washington. The authorities urged consumers to throw out the bacon or return it to stores.<\/p>\n The recall comes as President Trump\u2019s 50% tariff on many Canadian imports \u2013 including alcohol and dairy products, as well as auto industry parts \u2013 is set to take effect Aug. 19.<\/p>\n The bacon was distributed to stores in Idaho, Oregon and Washington. USDA<\/p>\n It also comes amid a massive cyclospora food poisoning outbreak<\/a> linked to lettuce from Mexico that has sickened more than 7,000 people in the U.S.\u00a0<\/p>\n
