That could be my family. And honestly, seeing somebody living your worst nightmare, it\u2019s just devastating,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">She is speaking out after the death of 11-year-old <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ctvnews.ca\/calgary\/article\/advocates-demand-amber-alert-changes-after-tragic-end-to-search-for-calgary-boy\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Parker Wells<\/a>, an autistic boy from Calgary who went missing from his day home on July 16.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">His body was found on July 29 in a small pipe in the city\u2019s northeast area.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">An Amber Alert was not sent out until more than 48 hours after his disappearance.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Venator wants that system to change, and for provincial and federal governments to introduce a vulnerable persons emergency alert system.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cWe know when someone goes missing, that time is very critical,\u201d Venator said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Her son is the same age as Parker and is autistic and non-verbal. Despite safety precautions, he\u2019s escaped the house before.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cWhen you\u2019re calling his name and searching for him, it\u2019s a terrifying feeling that\u2019s hard to put into words,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">She\u2019s not the only one calling for improvements with emergency alert systems.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.change.org\/p\/the-indigo-alert-improve-canada-s-emergency-alert-system-for-vulnerable-children?recruiter=47606777&amp;recruited_by_id=c5237ab0-885c-0130-2c09-00221968d0e0&amp;utm_source=share_petition&amp;utm_campaign=psf_promote_or_share&amp;utm_medium=copylink&amp;share_id=sQr9xtBbNR&amp;lang=en-CA\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Change.org petition<\/a> proposing an \u201cAt Risk Alert\u201d for vulnerable people has garnered more than 29,000 signatures.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Jen Ball founded the petition and has a seven-year-old son who has autism.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">She is encouraged by political leaders like Official Opposition Leader Pierre Poilievre advocating for changes with the alerts.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cThis is something that is very close to home for a bunch of other leaders that have autistic children,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Venator said her son uses a <a href=\"https:\/\/projectlifesaver.org\/about-us\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Project Lifesaver<\/a> radio frequency tracking bracelet, and has since he was three years old.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">She wants to see access to the resource expanded.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cIdeally, we would love to see Project Lifesaver available to any family that could use it,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" data-chromatic=\"ignore\" alt=\"Chrystal Venator with son\" class=\"c-image\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/M6Q7MQBKIVBWTK767SR4WMLTEA.jpeg\"  width=\"800\" height=\"450\"\/>Chrystal Venator Chrystal Venator and her her 11-year-old son Stalen are pictured.
