{"id":151656,"date":"2026-07-31T23:28:17","date_gmt":"2026-07-31T23:28:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/151656\/"},"modified":"2026-07-31T23:28:17","modified_gmt":"2026-07-31T23:28:17","slug":"man-dies-following-fall-from-mississauga-condo-siu-investigating","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/151656\/","title":{"rendered":"Man dies following fall from Mississauga condo, SIU investigating"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Ontario&#8217;s police watchdog is investigating after a 35-year-old man died following a fall from a Mississauga condominium Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Peel Regional Police responded to reports of a man in distress at a condo building on Kingsbridge Garden Circle, near Eglinton Avenue West and Hurontario Street, at about 10 a.m., according to a Special Investigation Unit release.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">According to the <a data-ylk=\"slk:SIU;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas;\" data-yga=\"{&quot;yLinkElement&quot;:&quot;link&quot;,&quot;yLinkElementType&quot;:&quot;article_link&quot;}\" href=\"https:\/\/globalnews.ca\/tag\/siu\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">SIU<\/a>, officers entered the man&#8217;s unit and attempted to negotiate with him before he fell from a high floor to the ground below.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The man was taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Because Peel police officers were present at the time of the man&#8217;s death, the SIU invoked its mandate and is investigating.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The SIU is a civilian oversight agency that investigates incidents involving police and other officials that may have resulted in death, serious injury, sexual assault or the discharge of a firearm at a person.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The agency has assigned three investigators and one forensic investigator to the case.
