Canada\u2019s merchandise trade surplus rose to $4.2 billion in May, the largest in four years, as exports reached a record high.<\/p>\n<p>Shopify results<\/p>\n<p>The e-commerce software platform is expected to release second-quarter results on Wednesday. Shopify\u2019s founder and CEO Tobi Lutke recently attracted criticism when he proposed on X that Canada eliminate the ability to vote for people not paying income tax and increase the number of votes to up to five for people paying $500,000 or more in income tax.<\/p>\n<p>Restaurant Brands International results<\/p>\n<p>The Toronto-based owner of Tim Hortons, Burger King, Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen and Firehouse Subs is set to report its second-quarter results on Thursday. Fast-food companies have been challenged lately by higher chicken and beef prices and more competition in the cold beverage category, where many businesses have expanded their offerings.<\/p>\n<p>Energy results<\/p>\n<p>Energy companies Suncor Energy Inc., South Bow Corp. and Canadian Natural Resources Ltd. will all be releasing quarterly results this week. The results arrive as war in the Middle East continues to weigh on the global energy market, creating volatility in oil prices.<\/p>\n<p>Job numbers<\/p>\n<p>Statistics Canada will release its latest jobs report on Friday when it publishes its labour force survey for July.
