Chris Bosh had a near-death experience from a blood clot scare in January. The former NBA star athlete got candid about his terrifying health condition that ended his 13-year career during an interview, per the Bleacher Report<\/a>. Turns out, he is still not out of danger. Bosh suffered another episode of pulmonary embolism, a condition that hinders normal blood flow, that left him hospitalized.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The former basketball player recalled almost “dropping dead” during the episode and shared a word of advice for people careless about their health. Bosh was diagnosed with the condition mid-career in 2015, which challenged his future in the NBA.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The 42-year-old athlete said he was in the hospital for a week after suffering another pulmonary embolism earlier this year. “I almost dropped dead pretty much and came back to life. I’m not joking,” Bosh said during an interview with Sam Yip of HoopsHype<\/a>. He was put on medication to prevent any future episodes.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“So, I’m taking my medicine every day, taking care of myself every day, and watching it. So, I mean, no symptoms came either, you know, so,” the Miami Heat star explained. Unfortunately, Bosh admitted that he will have to deal with pulmonary embolism for the rest of his life. “I thought I was past it. I am not. So, you know, it’s just making sure I stay on top of my regimen,” Bosh said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Basketball Hall of Famer shocked fans worldwide with a detailed account of the health scare he experienced in Feb. “So, I woke up covered in my own blood,” he began the video shared on X<\/a>. Bosh said he was getting ready for a date with his wife when he lost consciousness and fell to the ground.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“It was crazy. It was fast. It was instant. There was no warning. I didn’t have any time to prepare for it,” the former athlete noted. The experience changed him overnight and forced him to have a new perspective on life. He advised his fans, “No matter what it is, make sure you don’t wait. That’s the thing that I get from this.” Bosh encouraged people to take positive action in their lives and cherish every moment. “It could come quick. And I’m lucky to be alive, and I feel great about that,” he added.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Bosh wanted to have a longer career with the NBA, but life had other plans. Following his 2003 draft, he swiftly made his way to the top. In Feb. 2015, his first bout with pulmonary embolism resulted in a multi-day hospitalization, per ESPN<\/a>. A blood clot formed in one of his legs and had traveled to a lung. However, he was eventually released and continued playing 53 games in the 2015-16 season.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Another blood clot ended his season in Feb. 2016, with doctors warning him about a career risk. He finally retired in March 2019 and is currently exploring a career in sports media.
