The 2026 Toronto International Film Festival has added 70 feature films in the Centerpiece, Wavelengths and Classics programs, including an unprecedented eight animated films and a 4K restoration of Ken Russell\u2019s controversial and sexually charged \u201cThe Devils.\u201d<\/p>\n

The animated Centerpiece titles include Louise Bagnall\u2019s \u201cJulian,\u201d Xu Zao\u2019s \u201cLight Pillar\u201d and Sebastien Laudenbach\u2019s \u201cViva Carmen.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Centerpiece program consists of 54 films from 50 countries.\u00a0 Twenty-four are world premieres, among them Kim Bartley\u2019s \u201cLemonade,\u201d Avi Nesher\u2019s \u201cOur Loves\u201d and Kris Rey\u2019s \u201cTrash Mountain.\u201d<\/p>\n

The majority of the Centerpiece selections are North American or Canadian premieres of films that initially screened at other festivals. Those include Diego Luna\u2019s \u201cAshes,\u201d Marie-Clementine Dusabejambo\u2019s \u201cBen\u2019Imana,\u201d Valeska Grisebach\u2019s \u201cThe Dreamed Adventure,\u201d May el-Toukhy\u2019s \u201cWoman Unknown,\u201d Anthony Chen\u2019s \u201cWe Are All Strangers\u201d and Pegah Ahangarani\u2019s \u201cRehearsals for a Revolution.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Wavelengths section, which is devoted to challenging films and shorts, consists of 11 features and four programs of short and medium-length films. Artists include Beatrice Gibson (\u201cAt Night\u201d), Lisandro Alonso (\u201cDouble Freedom\u201d), Denis C\u00f4t\u00e9 (\u201cNobody\u2019s Violence\u201d) and Mariano Llin\u00e1s (\u201cLife of Jorge Luis Borges\u201d). The section also contains \u201cOnce Upon a Time in Harlem,\u201d a documentary shot by William Greaves at a gathering of key members of the Harlem Renaissance in 1972, but unseen until David Greaves recovered the footage after his father\u2019s death. \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

The TIFF Classics program will consist of 4K restorations of five films. \u201cKen Russell\u2019s The Devils\u201d is the highest-profile entry, along with work by Lynne Stopkewich, John Abraham, Fei Mu and Kon Ichikawa.<\/p>\n

The 2026 Toronto International Film Festival will begin on Sept. 10 and run through Sept. 20. Additional programming will be announced this week. \u00a0<\/p>\n
