A firework display to round off Aylesbury’s Parklife Weekend will go ahead – despite the recent dry and hot weather, a council has confirmed.<\/p>\n
The display at about 21:30 BST on Sunday will mark the end of the event organised by Aylesbury Town Council.<\/p>\n
After a number of people said it was “unwise, ridiculously inappropriate and madness” online, the council said it was “proactively working” with the professional fireworks display suppliers on its safety.<\/p>\n
Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue said organisers of outside events “should continue to monitor conditions, undertake appropriate risk assessments, and review their plans accordingly”.<\/p>\n
The council said: “We have seen the concerns raised regarding the planned fireworks display and appreciate residents sharing their views.<\/p>\n
“To reassure residents, we are proactively working with our professional fireworks display suppliers for the safety of this year’s display at Proms in the Park.<\/p>\n
“Risk assessments, method statements and inclement weather procedures are in place and will be followed if it is deemed unsafe to fire either in advance or on the day.”<\/p>\n
It added that the safety of visitors, volunteers and open spaces “is always our primary concern, and all necessary steps are in place to prevent any issues”.<\/p>\n
The fire service said: “We understand the concern that fireworks may present during the current period of prolonged dry weather and appreciate you taking the time to contact us.<\/p>\n
“As with all outdoor activities, organisers should continue to monitor conditions, undertake appropriate risk assessments, and review their plans accordingly.<\/p>\n
“We would also encourage members of the public to remain vigilant and report any fire-related emergencies immediately by calling 999.”<\/p>\n
