Trans-Canada Trail<\/a>.<\/p>\nThey are finally coming to the end of their road.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s slowly dawning on us that this is the end of this big multi-year project,\u201d Chatelain said.<\/p>\n
The Langford couple dipped their toes in the waters of St. John\u2019s, Nfld., and started walking.<\/p>\n
They\u2019d walk for months, mostly camping, then fly home for the winter, rest, and fly back to where they left off during the last leg of their trek.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo the off-season is to plan for the summer, the following summer. The Maritimes was the first summer. Quebec and Ontario the second summer. COVID stopped all of that for two summers,\u201d Lanoix said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThen we did northern Ontario, which is massive. We did the prairies, the Rockies, which we did a little bit different than the Trans-Canada. Because we wanted to immerse ourselves in the Rockies.\u201d<\/p>\n
Along the way, Simon posted their travels to Facebook. He wrote about the wildlife they encountered, including bears, elk and deer.<\/p>\n
it wasn\u2019t always easy. The hardest section was just outside Vancouver on a trail that was actually closed.<\/p>\n
Chatelain carried both their backpacks while Lamoix climbed the steep trail with a wheelie on his back.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe latest one was beyond North Vancouver on a trail that on the application showed a very small closure due to a bridge. And speaking later to locals, we realized that it was the whole trail that was closed and had not been maintained for years,\u201d Lanoix said. <\/p>\n
Along the way, they\u2019ve found their trek has inspired people who have read about their trip, including Mason McDonough.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think it\u2019s motivational for younger people like myself to read their story. And I hope they post more articles about it. Because it would be really cool to learn more,\u201d McDonough said. <\/p>\n
After eight years, and thousands of kilometres there is one key piece of equipment instrumental to thier journey.<\/p>\n
\u201cSome really good shoes. That is important. Very important,\u201d Lanoix said. <\/p>\n
They\u2019ll make their last leg of the journey from their home in Langford, and walk 27 kilometres with friends and well-wishers to Mile Zero in Beacon Hill Park.<\/p>\n
The last steps of their incredible hike will end at 4:30 Saturday afternoon.<\/p>\n
