The Canadian federal government said on \u2060Sunday it would \u2060help British Columbia \u2060as raging wildfires forced thousands of people to evacuate by providing shelter and accommodation for residents displaced in regions around Summerland and Peachland.<\/p>\n
The Bald Range wildfire, which prompted British \u200cColumbia to declare a provincial state of emergency and evacuate about 18,000 people, had spread to more than 10,300 hectares by at the weekend as firefighters continued to battle the blaze.<\/p>\n
\u201cLast night, I approved a request for Federal Assistance from British \u2060Columbia to provide shelter and accommodations for people who have been forced \u200cto leave their homes due to wildfires across the province,\u201d Eleanor Olszewski, Canada\u2019s minister of emergency management and \u200ccommunity resilience, said in a social media post.<\/p>\n
\u201cI have tasked \u2060federal officials, \u2060led by the Government Operations Centre at Public Safety Canada, to work with \u200cthe province to ensure support reaches those who need it most,\u201d the minister said.<\/p>\n
Over the past \u200c24 hours, \u200csouthern British Columbia continued to see fires spreading due to \u200chot and dry weather, the province\u2019s Wildfire Service said.<\/p>\n
