Canadian<\/a> wildfire smoke is pouring over the U.S. border<\/a> again as 11 new fires burn across British Columbia<\/a>.<\/p>\n

A state of emergency was declared in British Columbia Saturday, forcing thousands living around the Summerland area to evacuate their homes<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The largest of the regional fires has been dubbed the Bald Range Fire, and it had burned more than 33,000 acres by Sunday, according to The Washington Post<\/a>.<\/p>\n

As it did earlier this summer, fires from the Canadian wildfires<\/a> have produced toxic smoke<\/a> that is now billowing over the border and south into the U.S.<\/p>\n

NOAA imaging shows wildfire smoke coverage in eastern Washington, Idaho, parts of Montana, Wyoming, northern Utah, northern Nevada, eastern Oregon, and northeastern California.<\/p>\n

The impacted areas will see the smoke until midweek, forecasters say.<\/p>\n

Air quality in the affected portion of the northwestern U.S. ranged from “unhealthy for sensitive groups” in Wyoming and southern Montana to hazardous in northeastern Washington, including Spokane.<\/p>\n

The toxic clouds gave the region a hazy, orange hue over the last few days.<\/p>\n

Nad\u00e8ge Dubuisson, a public health program supervisor with Multnomah County, told the New York Times<\/a> that the wildfire haze is likely going to become a new normal for the region’s summers.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is a good reminder that our summers are changing,\u201d she said. \u201cThis is probably going to be our new reality, and we need to kind of be helping everybody get smoke-ready and wildfire-prepared.\u201d<\/p>\n

The smoke has already forced a number of cancellations in Spokane. The Spokane Indians canceled their scheduled Northwest League baseball games against the Eugene Emeralds, citing the air quality, according to The Spokesman-Review.<\/p>\n

Country star Luke Bryan, who was also scheduled to play on Friday and Saturday, canceled both of the outdoor shows due to the poor air quality. He explained in a video that he had been “really, really” struggling during a show he played in Bend, Oregon, on Thursday due to the wildfire smoke.<\/p>\n

According to IQAir, the poor air quality in Spokane will remain at either unhealthy for sensitive groups or unhealthy for the remainder of the week.<\/p>\n

The smoke coverage comes just under a month after the Midwest and the East Coast were similarly blanketed with a toxic haze from Canadian wildfires.<\/p>\n

Between July 18 and 20, smoke from fires in central and eastern Canada covered a stretch of the U.S. ranging from Illinois and Michigan in the Midwest to New York and Virginia in the East.<\/p>\n

The coverage prompted an angry letter from Michigan Republicans accusing Canada of failing to do enough to prevent wildfires and mitigate smoke migration that affects their constituents.
