The labour market <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mpamag.com\/ca\/mortgage-industry\/industry-trends\/canadas-jobs-machine-roars-back-but-brokers-shouldnt-celebrate-yet\/585395\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">added 75,000 jobs last month<\/a>, a much better return than expected, as the unemployment rate slipped to its lowest level for two years.<\/p>\n<p>And while the Canadian Real Estate Association (CREA) <a href=\"https:\/\/ca.finance.yahoo.com\/news\/crea-now-expects-home-sales-090004131.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">has downgraded its forecast for national home sales<\/a>, some mortgage industry members are reporting a brisk pace of activity even with prospective buyers facing steep challenges.<\/p>\n<p>Sarah Albert (pictured top), a New Brunswick-based broker with Premiere Mortgage Centre, told Canadian Mortgage Professional activity was muted in spring after an encouraging start to the year, partly because of the outbreak of the US-Iran war and huge question marks over its likely economic impact.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen that war started, our fixed rates all went up,\u201d she said. \u201cClients were like, \u2018Hey, I could get 3.79% and now it\u2019s 4.09%. What\u2019s going on?\u2019 It was really busy in January and February and then it just fell off a ledge.
