Vancouver Whitecaps FC<\/a> have acquired midfielder Aleksa Cvetkovi\u0107 from Serbian Superliga side OFK Beograd, the club announced Wednesday.<\/p>\n The 21-year-old Serbian youth international is under contract through the 2029-30 season, with an option for 2030-31. He will occupy a U22 Initiative roster spot.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cAleksa has been a regular starter and standout player for OFK Belgrad over the past two seasons in a highly competitive league,\u201d said sporting director Axel Schuster. \u201cHe brings tremendous energy and intensity to every match, along with a relentless work rate as a box-to-box midfielder.<\/p>\n “We believe he can make a valuable contribution to our squad while continuing to grow and develop as he adapts to a new country and a new league.\u201d<\/p>\n While at OFK Beograd, Cvetkovi\u0107 tallied seven goals and nine assists in 73 matches. He also spent time in youth systems for Red Star Belgrade and Grafi\u010dar.<\/p>\n Cvetkovi\u0107 joins Vancouver shortly after they transferred All-Star and Best XI midfielder Sebastian Berhalter<\/a> to EFL Championship side Middlesbrough.<\/p>\n “I\u2019m excited to join the Vancouver Whitecaps FC family,\u201d added Cvetkovi\u0107. “From the very first moment I learned the club was interested in me, I was highly motivated to make this move, and I truly believe it is the right step for my career.
