Emily Hermant - Vancouver Art Gallery Photo\" class=\"wp-image-215000\"  \/><\/p>\n<p>Vancouver Art Gallery Presents Local Showcase Vancouver Now!<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dedicated to emerging and mid-career artists whose practices are timely,\u00a0distinctive\u00a0and deeply connected to the city, the series reflects the Gallery\u2019s commitment to championing local artistic voices and keeping its finger on the pulse of Vancouver\u2019s evolving cultural landscape.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Gallery already announced the first five <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vanartgallery.bc.ca\/exhibitions\/vancouver-now-emily-hermant\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Vancouver Now!<\/a> exhibitions, showcasing the exceptional diversity and ambition of Vancouver\u2019s contemporary artists.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe first five\u00a0Vancouver Now!\u00a0exhibitions speak to the incredible depth of artistic talent in Vancouver,\u201d says\u00a0Eva Respini, Interim Co-CEO\u00a0&amp;\u00a0Curator at Large. \u201cAcross painting, drawing, sculpture and installation, these artists are producing some of the most\u00a0exciting\u00a0work in Canada today. This series is our commitment to making local\u00a0artists\u2019\u00a0work a regular and visible part of the Gallery experience.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The inaugural\u00a0Vancouver Now!\u00a0exhibition features interdisciplinary artist\u00a0Emily Hermant, whose intricate\u00a0weavings\u00a0transform\u00a0recycled\u00a0electrical\u00a0wires and data cables into richly textured compositions\u00a0through a\u00a0meticulous\u00a0making\u00a0process.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The exhibition coincides with the Vancouver Art Gallery\u2019s acquisition of Hermant\u2019s suspended\u00a0sculpture\u00a0Talk Through Me\u00a0(2024), an important addition to the Gallery\u2019s growing collection of contemporary Canadian art and a reflection of its commitment to supporting artists living and working in B.C.<\/p>\n<p>Artist Talk<\/p>\n<p>Date: Saturday, September 19,\u00a02026\u00a0from 2:00pm to 3:00pm\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Location: Rooftop Pavilion\u00a0\u2013 Vancouver Art Gallery<\/p>\n<p>Details: Hear from Vancouver artist\u00a0Emily Hermant\u00a0as she discusses the inaugural\u00a0Vancouver Now!\u00a0exhibition at the Vancouver Art Gallery. Learn about the ideas,\u00a0materials\u00a0and processes behind her meticulously woven works. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vanartgallery.bc.ca\/events\/artist-talk-emily-hermant\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Register online<\/a> in advance.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Vancouver Now!\u00a0will continue with a rotating program of solo exhibitions by Vancouver artists. Following\u00a0Emily Hermant, the series will feature\u00a0Annie Briard, whose immersive installations combine video, light and sound to explore perception and the ways we experience the world, and\u00a0Manjot Kaur, whose richly detailed paintings and multichannel sound installation\u00a0draw on the traditions of Indian miniature painting to imagine hybrid human-bird\u00a0beings\u00a0inspired by Hindu female deities.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The series continues through 2028 with\u00a0Lauren Crazybull, who\u00a0creates\u00a0portrait-based paintings that consider Indigenous presence, self-representation\u00a0and multiplicity\u00a0while asserting the humanity and resilience of Indigenous peoples, followed by\u00a0Karice Mitchell, who transforms\u00a0found images through analogue and digital processes to explore Black femme visibility, protection and alternative ways of being.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Gallery will present a series of public programs\u00a0throughout the run of\u00a0Vancouver Now!.
