{"id":166263,"date":"2026-08-13T06:11:34","date_gmt":"2026-08-13T06:11:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/166263\/"},"modified":"2026-08-13T06:11:34","modified_gmt":"2026-08-13T06:11:34","slug":"difficult-decision-fable-diner-closing-popular-vancouver-location-daily-hive","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/166263\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2018Difficult decision\u2019: Fable Diner closing popular Vancouver location | Daily Hive"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The list of Vancouver <a href=\"https:\/\/dailyhive.com\/vancouver\/restaurant-closures-february-2025\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">restaurant closures<\/a> continues to grow with the sad news that a popular Fable Diner location will soon close in Mount Pleasant.<\/p>\n<p>The beloved restaurant announced the closure in a press release, stating that it had made the \u201cdifficult decision to close its doors,\u201d with the final day of service set for Sunday, Aug. 23.<\/p>\n<p>According to Fable Diner, it was unable to secure a favourable long-term lease or negotiate its ongoing financial obligations in a manner that would allow it to stay open.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith the delayed completion of the nearby Broadway Subway station and no definite completion date confirmed, the current terms did not allow the business to continue operating sustainably through this period,\u201d explained the establishment.<\/p>\n<p><img alt=\"Fable Diner Mother\" title=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" decoding=\"async\" data-nimg=\"1\" class=\"size-large wp-image-2264593\" style=\"color:transparent\"   src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/Fable-Dine-1024x683.jpg\"\/><\/p>\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-2264593\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Fable Diner<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/fablediner.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Fable Diner<\/a>, which is located at 151 East Broadway on the ground floor of Mount Pleasant\u2019s historic Lee Building, opened in 2016.<\/p>\n<p>Its all-day menu melds breakfast staples, signature diner eats, and modern casual, made of fresh, local ingredients and often with a creative twist.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re incredibly grateful to everyone who has supported Fable Diner over the years \u2014 our staff, our regular guests and everyone who has walked through our doors,\u201d said owner Ron MacGillivray in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s been an incredible journey, and we\u2019re proud of what we\u2019ve built here and the community that has grown around the restaurant.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img alt=\"Fable Diner\" title=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" decoding=\"async\" data-nimg=\"1\" class=\"size-large wp-image-2253136\" style=\"color:transparent\"   src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/IMG_3054-1024x683.jpg\"\/><\/p>\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-2253136\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Owner of Fable Diner Ron MacGillivray (Marco Ovies\/Dished)<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this spring, MacGillivray told Dished about its <a href=\"https:\/\/dailyhive.com\/vancouver\/fable-diner-broadway-subway\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">struggles amid a four-month full closure of Broadway between Main Street and Quebec Street<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The closure was put in place to <a href=\"https:\/\/dailyhive.com\/vancouver\/broadway-subway-traffic-deck-road-closure-disruptions\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">remove traffic decks for subway construction<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis closure right now is just crazy, insane,\u201d said MacGillivray when Dished stopped by to chat with him about the effect the Broadway Subway construction has had on his business.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOnce this construction is done, there\u2019s going to be no one left for people to visit.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Guests are still able to visit the restaurant near Main Street and Broadway until Sunday, Aug. 23.<\/p>\n<p><img alt=\"Fable Diner\" title=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"1024\" decoding=\"async\" data-nimg=\"1\" class=\"size-large wp-image-2301794\" style=\"color:transparent\"   src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/Fable-Diner-1024x1024.jpg\"\/><\/p>\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-2301794\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Fable Diner<\/p>\n<p>Fable Kitchen on West 4th Avenue and Fable Diner &amp;
