Judy Trinh reports. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">OTTAWA \u2014 Conservative and Bloc Qu\u00e9b\u00e9cois members of the House of Commons public safety and national security committee are calling for an emergency meeting to discuss spying allegations involving a former Canadian NATO intern in Belgium.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Frank Caputo, the Conservative public safety critic, says MPs need to discuss the \u201cserious questions\u201d the case raises about \u201cCanada\u2019s national security screening processes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The suspect is described as a Canadian national of Chinese origin and faces charges related to espionage and participation in a criminal organization.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The suspect is being held by Belgian authorities on pretrial detention but is appealing this decision.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" data-chromatic=\"ignore\" alt=\"\" class=\"c-image\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/RMXL3AP7U5MLSNQW2KY4L42NGM.jpg\"  width=\"800\" height=\"579\"\/>The NATO logo is illuminated beside the stage during a ceremony celebrating NATO&#8217;s 75th anniversary, in Washington, Tuesday, July 9, 2024.
