Certainly not if this country stays on its current trajectory \u2014 namely, on our slow and agonizing decline.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Swathes of Canadians seem unbothered, at best, by the country\u2019s first unelected majority government, made possible by five dubious parliamentary floor crossings. Yes, the majority technically didn\u2019t happen until three by-elections, two occurring in Liberal stronghold ridings, clinched the deal; however, Prime Minister Mark Carney would not have a majority government without those floor crossers. That is incontrovertible.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Which raises the next question: why so many Canadians are also apparently unperturbed by what appears to be a Liberal effort to make backroom deals with opposition MPs. One Conservative MP, Billy Morin, was caught\u00a0<a data-yga=\"{\" ylinkelement=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/ryangerritsen\/status\/2043763349234630814?s=20\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"elm:link;elmt:article_link;slk:on a hot mic before an Ottawa press conference;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">on a hot mic before an Ottawa press conference<\/a> stating that the Liberals were attempting to \u201cpoach\u201d him. Aside from the angry constituents who vandalized floor-crossing MP Marilyn Gladu\u2019s Ontario office, there has been little outrage \u2014 outside of online political commentary circles \u2014 towards team-switching MPs, or the political system at large. What gives?<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Meanwhile,\u00a0<a data-yga=\"{\" ylinkelement=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thestar.com\/opinion\/star-columnists\/this-isnt-just-a-carney-majority-its-a-national-unity-government\/article_f961c378-b340-4ac3-a49a-947c4fcfb730.html?utm_source=Twitter&amp;utm_medium=SocialMedia\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"elm:link;elmt:article_link;slk:over at the Toronto Star;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">over at the Toronto Star<\/a>, columnist Justin Ling has made the zany argument that what Carney has done is formed a \u201cnational unity government\u201d \u2014 some kind of a \u201ccross-partisan amalgam of politicians who want to get big things done.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">If, by \u201cgetting things done,\u201d\u00a0Ling\u00a0is referring to growing federal bureaucracy, endless\u00a0consultation\u00a0with stakeholders, and signing\u00a0go-nowhere\u00a0memorandums of understanding, then sure: Carney is getting things done.\u00a0And if, by \u201ccross-partisan,\u201d\u00a0he\u00a0is referring to a Liberal government that is dotted with sellout Conservatives who are\u00a0<a data-yga=\"{\" ylinkelement=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/sarobertsonca\/status\/2042399853020385733?s=20\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"elm:link;elmt:article_link;slk:whipped into voting as per Carney\u2019s orders;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">whipped into voting as per Carney\u2019s orders<\/a>, then sure:\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0\u201ccross partisan.\u201d\u00a0Unfortunately for Ling, words have meaning, and Carney\u2019s government is neither unifying\u00a0nor\u00a0cross partisan.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">All the while, Canada continues to decline, as it did over the\u00a0<a data-yga=\"{\" ylinkelement=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/ca.news.yahoo.com\/canadas-terrible-horrible-no-good-110007396.html\" data-ylk=\"elm:link;elmt:article_link;slk:Liberal Lost Decade;itc:0;sec:content-canvas;outcm:mb_qualified_link;_E:mb_qualified_link;ct:story;\" class=\"link  yahoo-link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Liberal Lost Decade<\/a>, and the populace seems to either not care,\u00a0or\u00a0to\u00a0have little inclination as to\u00a0<a data-yga=\"{\" ylinkelement=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/ca.news.yahoo.com\/carson-jerema-justin-trudeau-cost-100057887.html\" data-ylk=\"elm:link;elmt:article_link;slk:why our standard of living keeps falling under Liberal rule;itc:0;sec:content-canvas;outcm:mb_qualified_link;_E:mb_qualified_link;ct:story;\" class=\"link  yahoo-link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">why our standard of living keeps falling under Liberal rule<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Even worse, when official Opposition leader Pierre Poilievre talks about the abysmal state of our country, his detractors portray him (often successfully) as a big, whiny complainer. \u201cPierre Poilievre would like to speak to the manager,\u201d <a data-yga=\"{\" ylinkelement=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/newsletters\/canada-playbook\/2026\/04\/17\/department-of-complaints-00878329\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"elm:link;elmt:article_link;slk:reads a recent Politico piece;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">reads a recent Politico piece<\/a>, in a nod to the \u201cKaren\u201d meme that is used to dismiss persons\u00a0on the basis of\u00a0their alleged \u201cprivilege,\u201d rather than\u00a0on the basis of\u00a0their arguments. Our national broadcaster loves to portray\u00a0Poilievre\u00a0similarly, including\u00a0<a data-yga=\"{\" ylinkelement=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/politics\/poilievre-conservative-trudeau-1.7345127\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"elm:link;elmt:article_link;slk:by accusing Poilievre;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">by accusing Poilievre<\/a>\u00a0of using \u201crhetoric\u2026 tailored for a media climate that rewards maximum drama.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">What\u2019s\u00a0more dramatic: the words of a politician\u00a0doing his job, or\u00a0<a data-yga=\"{\" ylinkelement=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/ca.news.yahoo.com\/weve-lost-10-normal-life-100024551.html\" data-ylk=\"elm:link;elmt:article_link;slk:the reality\u00a0facing\u00a0Canadian youth;itc:0;sec:content-canvas;outcm:mb_qualified_link;_E:mb_qualified_link;ct:story;\" class=\"link  yahoo-link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the reality\u00a0facing\u00a0Canadian youth<\/a>, whose self-reported happiness levels are drastically lower than those of Canadians over the age of 60? I say the latter is far more dramatic. Again, what\u2019s worse: so-called inflammatory rhetoric, or the fact that our millennial generation was the last to have at least some hope of home ownership in Canada? How about the <a data-yga=\"{\" ylinkelement=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/financialpost.com\/news\/canadians-love-kids-just-not-financial-security-hit\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"elm:link;elmt:article_link;slk:widespread worry amongst\u00a0younger generations;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">widespread worry amongst\u00a0younger generations<\/a>\u00a0that they cannot afford to\u00a0even\u00a0have children?<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">How about the <a data-yga=\"{\" ylinkelement=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.rbc.com\/en\/thought-leadership\/the-growth-project\/capital-gains-how-canada-can-unlock-the-1-8-trillion-it-needs-for-growth\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"elm:link;elmt:article_link;slk:collapse;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">collapse<\/a> in investment in Canada between 2015 and 2024?<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">These are the real problems that \u2014 if not corrected \u2014 will certainly lead to an exodus of young Canadians in the coming years. The Liberals have proven, for more than a decade under both Trudeau, and now Carney, that they will not correct what ails Canada. They caused it. And they intend to keep things this way.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Our economy is pitiful as a direct result of Liberal policies, including anti-pipeline legislation. Carney has not signalled that he will repeal any anti-investment legislation. The opposite is true: <a data-yga=\"{\" ylinkelement=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/energynow.ca\/2025\/04\/more-of-the-same-mark-carney-admits-he-will-not-repeal-the-liberals-bill-c-69-the-no-pipelines-bill\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"elm:link;elmt:article_link;slk:he has stated;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">he has stated<\/a>\u00a0that he\u00a0<a data-yga=\"{\" ylinkelement=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/ca.news.yahoo.com\/josh-dehaas-hey-carney-repealing-100057490.html\" data-ylk=\"elm:link;elmt:article_link;slk:plans to keep\u00a0it;itc:0;sec:content-canvas;outcm:mb_qualified_link;_E:mb_qualified_link;ct:story;\" class=\"link  yahoo-link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">plans to keep\u00a0it<\/a>.\u00a0Carney\u2019s nonstop talk of \u201cbuilding\u201d things is a front: the man is the literal definition of \u201call talk, no action.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The current Liberal government also retains the same dedication to the toxic identity politics that defined Trudeau\u2019s era. Carney is simply less obvious about it all \u2014 perhaps intentionally so. To those who don\u2019t keep their finger on the pulse of the \u201cculture wars\u201d (most Canadians, in other words), it might appear that we are moving on from the days of being subjected to endless woke nonsense. <a data-yga=\"{\" ylinkelement=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/ca.news.yahoo.com\/jamie-sarkonak-just-trudeau-carney-100047126.html\" data-ylk=\"elm:link;elmt:article_link;slk:But that\u2019s not the case;itc:0;sec:content-canvas;outcm:mb_qualified_link;_E:mb_qualified_link;ct:story;\" class=\"link  yahoo-link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">But that\u2019s not the case<\/a>.\u00a0A quick perusal of our official government website reveals such inanities as\u00a0<a data-yga=\"{\" ylinkelement=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.canada.ca\/en\/women-gender-equality\/campaigns\/gender-based-violence-its-not-just\/gender-based-violence-resources\/help-stop-gbv\/real-world-scenarios\/scenario-06.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"elm:link;elmt:article_link;slk:an entire page;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">an entire page<\/a>\u00a0dedicated to telling citizens that \u201cdeadnaming\u201d (using the former name of a transgender-identified person) amounts to literal violence.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Toxic identity politics harm all of us \u2014 via extreme divisiveness and <a data-yga=\"{\" ylinkelement=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/nationalpost.com\/opinion\/jordan-peterson-when-the-left-goes-too-far-the-dangerous-doctrine-of-equity\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"elm:link;elmt:article_link;slk:mandated and harmful notions of equity;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">mandated and harmful notions of equity <\/a>\u2014 but tend to specifically target those who are white and male. As my sons are.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">I love Canada, despite its flaws, and I wish for my sons to have a bright future here.
