{"id":168273,"date":"2026-08-14T18:55:07","date_gmt":"2026-08-14T18:55:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/168273\/"},"modified":"2026-08-14T18:55:07","modified_gmt":"2026-08-14T18:55:07","slug":"35th-annual-edmonton-marathon-happening-sunday","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/168273\/","title":{"rendered":"35th annual Edmonton Marathon happening Sunday"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"sc-image\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/untitled-design-11.png\" alt=\"Servus Edmonton Marathon at the Edmonton Convention Centre (Photo Credits - Servus Edmonton Marathon)\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Servus Edmonton Marathon at the Edmonton Convention Centre (Photo Credits &#8211; Servus Edmonton Marathon)<\/p>\n<p data-olk-copy-source=\"MessageBody\">On Sunday, August 16, thousands of local, national and international marathon runners will take to city streets for the\u00a02026 Servus Edmonton Marathon.<\/p>\n<p>Known widely as the \u201cfriendly\u201d marathon, it is celebrating its 35th year winding through a number of historic neighbourhoods and past Edmonton\u2019s scenic River Valley.<\/p>\n<p>A qualifier for the 2027 Boston Marathon, the race also hosts the Athletics Canada National Half Marathon Championships alongside the Canadian Masters Half Marathon Championships.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Servus Edmonton Marathon features a flat, fast course that offers participants a unique connection to the community, with support from more than 400 volunteers and cheers from over 15,000 spectators.<\/p>\n<p>The finish line, located in front of the Edmonton Convention Centre, will be filled with energy as fans line Jasper Avenue.<\/p>\n<p>Road closures and traffic delays<\/p>\n<p>The race route starts and finishes in front of the Edmonton Convention Centre at 97 Street and Jasper Avenue.<\/p>\n<p>From 6 a.m. to 4 p.m., Jasper Avenue will be fully closed from 95 Street to 116 Street.<\/p>\n<p>With Jasper Avenue currently partially closed from 116 Street to 124 Street, drivers are asked to use 104 Avenue or 107 Avenue as alternate routes.<\/p>\n<p>Jasper Avenue from 99 Street to 96 Street and 97 Street from Jasper Avenue to 101A Avenue will also be closed from 6:30 p.m. August 14 to 10 p.m. August 16.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, several streets east and west of the Edmonton Convention Centre will be closed or have traffic restrictions.<\/p>\n<p>Impacts to downtown Edmonton will begin at 6:30 p.m. Friday, August 14 and end by 10 p.m. Sunday, August 16.<\/p>\n<p>Drivers should expect significant delays from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, especially when travelling downtown.<\/p>\n<p>Find a full list of road closures and alternate routes\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.edmonton.ca\/attractions_events\/schedule_festivals_events\/servus-edmonton-marathon?utm_source=virtualaddress&amp;utm_campaign=marathon\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Neighbourhood access<\/p>\n<p>Many areas along the race route will allow local access only. Residents will still be able to access and leave their homes, but should plan ahead and expect delays.<\/p>\n<p>Impacts to downtown neighbourhoods\u00a0east of the Edmonton Convention Centre\u00a0will begin at 6:45 a.m. and end at approximately 10:30 a.m.<\/p>\n<p>Impacts to downtown neighbourhoods\u00a0west of the Edmonton Convention Centre\u00a0will begin at 6:30 a.m. and end at approximately 4 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>Residential streets in Cromdale, Virginia Park, Bellevue, Boyle Street, Highlands, Beverly Heights, Rundle Heights, W\u00eehkw\u00eant\u00f4win, Glenora, Crestwood and Parkview will be affected.<\/p>\n<p>Residents are asked not to park along the race route and to follow directions from race course marshals.<\/p>\n<p>Parking<\/p>\n<p>Parking restrictions will be in effect along the race route. Access to several parking facilities will be impacted from 6 p.m. Friday, August 14 to 4 p.m. Sunday, August 16, including:<\/p>\n<p>Canada Place East and West parkades<br \/>\nStanley A. Milner Library parkade<br \/>\nSun Life parkade<br \/>\nKRP Tower, 9888 Jasper Avenue<br \/>\nDiamond and Impark lots on 99 Street south of Jasper Avenue<br \/>\nFairmont Hotel Macdonald, 10065 100 Street<br \/>\nDoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Downtown, 9576 Jasper Avenue<br \/>\nSurface lots along 101A Avenue between 96 Street and 97 Street<\/p>\n<p>Edmonton Transit Service (ETS) impacts<\/p>\n<p>With no north-south traffic across Jasper Avenue at 109 Street and 116 Street, several ETS routes will be detoured and some bus stops will be closed during the event.
