{"id":168403,"date":"2026-08-14T20:31:09","date_gmt":"2026-08-14T20:31:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/168403\/"},"modified":"2026-08-14T20:31:09","modified_gmt":"2026-08-14T20:31:09","slug":"canada-sanctions-five-iranians-over-hormuz-navigation-shafaq-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/168403\/","title":{"rendered":"Canada sanctions five Iranians over Hormuz navigation &#8211; Shafaq News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n                            2026-08-14T19:48:11+00:00<\/p>\n<p>                                    font<\/p>\n<p>                                            Enable Reading Mode<\/p>\n<p>\n                                        A-<br \/>\n                                        A<br \/>\n                                        A+\n                                    <\/p>\n<p>Shafaq News- Ottawa<\/p>\n<p>Canada imposed sanctions on five Iranian officials and figures on Friday over activities Ottawa said obstructed navigation in and around the Strait of Hormuz and threatened international security.<\/p>\n<p>Those <a href=\"https:\/\/www.canada.ca\/en\/global-affairs\/news\/2026\/08\/backgrounder-canada-imposes-sanctions-on-individuals-whose-activities-contribute-to-irans-efforts-to-obstruct-navigation-rights-in-and-around-the-s.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">sanctioned<\/a> are Ali Abdollahi, commander of Iran\u2019s Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters; its spokesperson Ebrahim Zolfaghari; lawmaker Ebrahim Azizi, who heads parliament\u2019s National Security and Foreign Policy Committee; Iranian Navy Commander Shahram Irani; and Hamid Hosseini, spokesperson for the Iranian Oil, Gas and Petrochemical Products Exporters Union.<\/p>\n<p>The sanctions freeze any assets the five may hold in Canada, bar Canadians from dealing with them, and render them inadmissible to the country. The latest measures bring Canada\u2019s Iran sanctions list to 232 individuals and 260 entities.<\/p>\n<p>Canada said Iran announced the closure of Hormuz following US-Israeli attacks on Feb. 28 and subsequently threatened, seized, or targeted commercial vessels.
