{"id":169155,"date":"2026-08-15T13:18:00","date_gmt":"2026-08-15T13:18:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/169155\/"},"modified":"2026-08-15T13:18:00","modified_gmt":"2026-08-15T13:18:00","slug":"up-to-50-mm-rain-may-wash-out-your-sunday-in-southern-ontario","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/169155\/","title":{"rendered":"Up to 50+ mm rain may wash out your Sunday in southern Ontario"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If you&#8217;re in southern Ontario and are planning to have a mid-August barbecue, Saturday will be your day to do it as torrential rains threaten to turn Sunday into a washout.<\/p>\n<p>An active and humid airmass south of the border is forecast to move northward into southern Ontario on Sunday morning, along with a low-pressure system that may trigger widespread rain and possible thunderstorms.<\/p>\n<p>DON&#8217;T MISS: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theweathernetwork.com\/en\/news\/weather\/severe\/latest-el-nino-forecast-calls-for-historic-heat-by-this-autumn\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Latest El Ni\u00f1o forecast calls for historic heat by this autumn<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Being at the cottage in northeastern Ontario won&#8217;t spare you from the rainy weather, either, as a secondary low is expected to move across the region and also bring heavy rain.<\/p>\n<p><img url=\"\/\/images.twnmm.com\/c55i45ef3o2a\/11ROY96E3cTnLD8IIm8Mjz\/38b568136e5f3610794467ab898ae389\/Ontario_Sunday_atmospheric_moisture_-_Aug._14__2026.png\" alt=\"Ontario Sunday atmospheric moisture - Aug. 14, 2026\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-nimg=\"fill\" style=\"position:absolute;height:100%;width:100%;left:0;top:0;right:0;bottom:0;object-fit:contain;object-position:center center;color:transparent\"   src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/Ontario_Sunday_atmospheric_moisture_-_Aug._14__2026.png\"\/>Flood-stricken regions could see heavy to torrential rainfall Sunday<\/p>\n<p>Two weeks after the widespread <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theweathernetwork.com\/en\/news\/weather\/severe\/shock-grief-and-a-city-on-the-edge-as-st-catharines-ont-deals-with-massive-flooding\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">back-to-back flooding in the Niagara region<\/a>, where over 250 mm of rain fell between two separate storm events in under one week, and folks are still cleaning up from the devastating damage. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theweathernetwork.com\/en\/news\/weather\/severe\/93-year-olds-lifetime-of-memories-piled-on-a-curb-in-st-catharines-ont-after-flooding\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Curbs in St. Catharines<\/a> continue to be filled with wrecked furniture and flooring as basements remain uninhabitable.<\/p>\n<p>As of Aug. 14, St. Catharines remains in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theweathernetwork.com\/en\/news\/weather\/severe\/what-is-a-state-of-emergency-canada-united-states-how-these-orders-help-in-a-crisis\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">state of emergency<\/a> as cleanup from the flooding continues. But even as repairs are made, the emotional and physical scars still linger, and any rain in the forecast has residents understandably on edge.<\/p>\n<p>Rainfall is forecast to move into southwestern Ontario and intensify by early Sunday afternoon, impacting the Windsor-Sarnia-London corridor.<\/p>\n<p><img url=\"\/\/images.twnmm.com\/c55i45ef3o2a\/1t3SFE65jNxXrcJ820WIyK\/d290104651b456d376039d27fc534545\/Southern_Ontario_Sunday_forecast_rain_and_storms_-_Aug._14__2026.png\" alt=\"Southern Ontario Sunday forecast rain and storms - Aug. 14, 2026\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-nimg=\"fill\" style=\"position:absolute;height:100%;width:100%;left:0;top:0;right:0;bottom:0;object-fit:contain;object-position:center center;color:transparent\"   src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/Southern_Ontario_Sunday_forecast_rain_and_storms_-_Aug._14__2026.png\"\/><\/p>\n<p>By mid-afternoon, the rain and embedded thunderstorms are forecast to lift toward the Golden Horseshoe, bringing heavy to torrential rainfall into Hamilton, the Greater Toronto Area, and Niagara region.<\/p>\n<p>Atmospheric moisture is expected to be high across southern Ontario, bringing the humidex up to the high 30s to low 40s.
