{"id":169615,"date":"2026-08-16T00:27:32","date_gmt":"2026-08-16T00:27:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/169615\/"},"modified":"2026-08-16T00:27:32","modified_gmt":"2026-08-16T00:27:32","slug":"stellantis-mulling-closure-and-sale-of-idled-brampton-plant-unifor-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/169615\/","title":{"rendered":"Stellantis mulling closure and sale of idled Brampton plant: Unifor"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph\">TORONTO \u2014 Unifor says Stellantis is considering the closure and sale of its Brampton, Ont., assembly plant, which has been idled since 2023.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The union says it received notice from the automaker on Wednesday that it was seriously evaluating the sale and closure. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The Brampton plant had been slated to be retooled for Jeep production, a process that began early in 2024 before the company paused the plan in early 2025. In October 2025, Stellantis announced it was moving production of the Jeep Compass slated for Brampton to the U.S., leaving the plant idled indefinitely. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Unifor says Stellantis has not provided it with a formal written notice of the plant\u2019s closure, but that its collective agreement with the automaker states it must provide no less than one year\u2019s notice in the event of a closure or sale. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">In a statement, Stellantis says it\u2019s preparing to enter the collective bargaining process and has nothing to announce at this time but that it\u2019s focused on finding a solution for the plant. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The move comes as Unifor is in the process of negotiating new labour agreements with the Detroit Three automakers.
