{"id":172081,"date":"2026-08-18T05:57:17","date_gmt":"2026-08-18T05:57:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/172081\/"},"modified":"2026-08-18T05:57:17","modified_gmt":"2026-08-18T05:57:17","slug":"northern-graphite-selected-for-canada-japan-battery-program","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/172081\/","title":{"rendered":"Northern Graphite selected for Canada-Japan battery program"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.northerngraphite.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Northern Graphite<\/a> (TSX-V:NGC) has been selected for a <a href=\"https:\/\/mining.com.au\/tag\/canada\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Canada<\/a>-Japan program that will independently test its battery anode materials against established industry benchmarks.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/mining.com.au\/company\/natural-resources-canada\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Natural Resources Canada<\/a> will provide C$155,800 ($158,052) in funding for the company to participate in testing by Japan\u2019s Lithium-ion Battery Technology and Evaluation Center (LIBTEC).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/mining.com.au\/company\/northern-graphite\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Northern<\/a> is the initiative\u2019s only battery anode material developer, alongside Canadian companies working on cathode materials. The program forms part of cooperation between Canada and Japan aimed at developing <a href=\"https:\/\/mining.com.au\/commodities\/battery-metals\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">battery<\/a> and critical mineral supply chains outside China.<\/p>\n<p>The company will supply battery anode material (BAM) samples made from <a href=\"https:\/\/mining.com.au\/commodities\/graphite\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">graphite<\/a> mined at its Lac des Iles Mine in Qu\u00e9bec, Canada, and upgraded through its battery materials technology platform.<\/p>\n<p>LIBTEC will test and compare the samples under standardised conditions used by battery manufacturers. The evaluation will examine capacity, charging performance, cycle life, and consistency.<\/p>\n<p>CEO Dr Moritz Hantel says the independent assessment will help Northern demonstrate whether its material meets potential customers\u2019 requirements.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis initiative is a key step in demonstrating the commercial readiness of our BAM portfolio,\u201d Hantel says.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWorking together with LIBTEC allows Northern to independently demonstrate the capability of our BAM and helps to facilitate the ongoing discussion with the Japanese battery ecosystem.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Northern says it expects the results to support further product development, customer qualification, and discussions with Japanese battery and automotive companies.
