He explained that both countries have made significant progress toward an agreement, but there was still work to be done. He also vowed to build a stronger and more competitive Canadian economy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOver the last number of weeks, Canada has engaged in intensive discussions with the United States to address outstanding trade issues and deliver greater certainty and real benefits for Canadian businesses, workers, farmers, and families,\u201d <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/mikelecouteur\/status\/2089915944650916311\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">read Carney\u2019s statement.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cSubstantial progress has been made, although there is important work still to be done,\u201d said Carney. \u201cAs this work is ongoing, the United States has agreed to postpone the implementation of its 50% tariffs on a range of Canadian goods under Section 338 of the U.S. Tariff Act of 1930 until end of day, August 21st.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Carney\u2019s words come after Trump announced his decision to delay the tariffs late Tuesday night, as the Washington Examiner previously <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/white-house\/4692341\/trump-pauses-tariffs-canada-deadline\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">reported<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI have paused the 50% Tariffs against Canada, that were scheduled to kick in tomorrow morning for a three day period, based on the fact that Canada and the U.S.A., subject to the finalization of documents, have a DEAL!\u201d Trump said in a Truth Social post.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Trump originally announced the tariffs on July 20, and they were scheduled to take effect at 12:01 a.m. on August 19th.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cToday, President Donald J.
