Craig Stothard&#8217;s preliminary inquiry wrapped up Tuesday as Justice Mark Mastel ruled there is enough evidence to send the case to trial.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Stothard, 52, faces two charges of second-degree murder in the deaths of Wesley Davidson and Levon Boyce Fox, who were fatally shot in May 2023.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Police allege the two victims were in a stolen cube van and that Stothard shot the pair after a 45-minute slow-speed chase along Memorial Drive. A third person in the vehicle \u2014 Fox&#8217;s brother \u2014was also shot but survived his injuries.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">A publication ban covering the evidence and arguments was issued at the beginning of the hearing in order to protect Stothard&#8217;s right to a fair trial.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team charged Stothard last summer following a two-year investigation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">He was granted bail pending trial.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">According to the Calgary Police Service, Stothard is currently &#8220;relieved from duty with pay.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The case will now move from Alberta&#8217;s Court of Justice to the Court of King&#8217;s Bench.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Prosecutor Jeff Rudiak and defence lawyer Don MacLeod will set trial dates in the coming weeks.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A Calgary police officer facing two murder charges has been committed to stand trial following an eight-day hearing.&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":174189,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[9],"tags":[51,1054,52670,55486,52671,34647,55488,55487],"class_list":["post-174188","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-calgary","tag-calgary","tag-calgary-police","tag-craig-stothard","tag-levon-boyce-fox","tag-mark-mastel","tag-murder-charges","tag-stothard","tag-wesley-davidson"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/174188","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=174188"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/174188\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/174189"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=174188"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=174188"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=174188"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
