Nationally, <a data-ylk=\"slk:the GCSE overall pass rate has fallen slightly;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas;\" data-yga=\"{&quot;yLinkElement&quot;:&quot;link&quot;,&quot;yLinkElementType&quot;:&quot;article_link&quot;}\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/live\/ck62edyz3qevt?post=asset%3A67821e37-4a79-4a18-a201-815e8f243c71&amp;xtor=AL-72-%5Bpartner%5D-%5Byahoo.north.america%5D-%5Blink%5D-%5Bnews%5D-%5Bbizdev%5D-%5Bisapi%5D#post\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">the GCSE overall pass rate has fallen slightly<\/a> &#8211; but top grades have edged up across England, Wales and Northern Ireland.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">&#8220;The prolonged wait really put me on edge, I&#8217;m ecstatic really [I got] everything above sixes,&#8221; said Tio who studies at Five Acres High School in Coleford, Gloucestershire.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">John Cabot Academy student Chloe from Bristol, who was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes just four days before her first exam, said she was &#8220;really proud&#8221; of the hard work she had put in.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Chloe&#8217;s mum, Fern, said the last few months had been &#8220;challenging&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">&#8220;It was horrendous but she has done so well and she&#8217;s come so far, doing the revision, putting in the extra effort,&#8221; she added.<\/p>\n<p><img alt=\"A young girl with long brown hair wearing hoop earrings and braces is smiling at the camera.\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"960\" height=\"540\" decoding=\"async\" data-nimg=\"1\" class=\"rounded-lg\" style=\"color:transparent\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/https:\/\/media.zenfs.com\/en\/bbc_us_articles_995\/edc6bbc5395375b1f5ff7a6e13db446d.jpg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Chloe was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes days before her first GCSE exam [BBC]<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Dominik, who studied at Blaise High School in Bristol and wants to work as an embalmer in the funeral industry, said receiving his results felt &#8220;amazing.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">&#8220;I&#8217;m shaking right now,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">In Somerset, Huish Episcopi pupil William said he was &#8220;quite surprised&#8221; with his results.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">&#8220;I&#8217;m not the most academic person ever but I did pretty well I think,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">&#8220;I got a five in science which is really weird because I&#8217;m not great at science.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Casper, who also studies at Huish Episcopi near Langport, is planning on doing an apprenticeship to become a chef.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">&#8220;Eight in maths, I&#8217;ll take that any day of the week,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p><img alt=\"Two boys with long hair wearing jumpers are holding up their GCSE results.\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"960\" height=\"540\" decoding=\"async\" data-nimg=\"1\" class=\"rounded-lg\" style=\"color:transparent\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/https:\/\/media.zenfs.com\/en\/bbc_us_articles_995\/89c85f52e79945b824d968fed21106ad.jpg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Students Casper (left) and Freddie said they were pleased with their results [BBC]<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Five Acres student Verity said she was happy to see the back of her exams.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">&#8220;I genuinely thought I was going to fail maths so the fact that I got a seven is just blowing my mind,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">&#8220;I&#8217;m going to Hereford Art College and I&#8217;m going to be studying an art and design course. I&#8217;m very excited to not have to do any exams anymore and doing the only subject I truly enjoy. &#8220;<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Lilly got nines and eights in her GCSEs, and has big plans for the future.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">&#8220;I want to work with the UN and hopefully be a diplomat or something like that,&#8221; she told BBC Radio Gloucestershire.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">At Wellington Academy in Tidworth, Wiltshire, 16-year-old professional footballer Julian unfortunately did not pass maths, but said he feels he has &#8220;done himself proud&#8221; nonetheless.<\/p>\n<p><img alt=\"A 16-year-old boy is smiling wearing a black cap and braces and a black t-shirt.
