Prime Minister Mark Carney asked premiers on Wednesday to restock American alcohol as Canada and the U.S. reached a tentative deal on tariffs.Laura Proctor\/The Canadian Press<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-article-body__text text-pr-5\">Prime Minister <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theglobeandmail.com\/topics\/mark-carney\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.theglobeandmail.com\/topics\/mark-carney\/\">Mark Carney<\/a> has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theglobeandmail.com\/world\/article-canada-us-resume-talks-as-parties-remain-quiet-on-details-of-tentative\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.theglobeandmail.com\/world\/article-canada-us-resume-talks-as-parties-remain-quiet-on-details-of-tentative\/\">asked Canadian premiers<\/a> to restock American alcohol and end procurement policies that exclude United States companies on Thursday, in the midst of a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theglobeandmail.com\/world\/us-politics\/article-trump-pauses-new-tariffs-for-three-days-says-us-canada-have-reached\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.theglobeandmail.com\/world\/us-politics\/article-trump-pauses-new-tariffs-for-three-days-says-us-canada-have-reached\/\">tentative trade deal<\/a> with the U.S.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-article-body__text text-pr-5\">All provinces and territories except Alberta and Saskatchewan have maintained bans on the sale of U.S. liquor, and a number have imposed procurement restrictions in retaliation for U.S. President Donald Trump\u2019s tariffs last year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-article-body__text text-pr-5\">The removal of U.S. alcohol from liquor stores in many provinces and territories has been a sore spot with Mr. Trump\u2019s administration, and Washington has demanded alcohol sales be restored if Ottawa wants to land a trade deal and avoid further tariffs.<\/p>\n<p>Manitoba&#8217;s Premier says he is reluctantly open to returning U.S. booze to provincial shelves as part of a trade deal, but hopes Canadians won&#8217;t buy it.
