Edmonton Police say two people were injured and a man is in custody after a stabbing at a Sikh temple in the city\u2019s northeast early Friday morning.<\/p>\n
Edmonton Police Service spokesperson Carolin Maran said in a statement that officers responded at 5:08 a.m. to a reported stabbing at the Nanaksar Sikh Temple, located on the edge of the city.<\/p>\n
After arriving at the temple, police arrested an adult male while the two male victims were treated for non-life-threatening injuries, Ms. Maran wrote.<\/p>\n
Police have provided few details and haven\u2019t suggested a motive. Edmonton Police are scheduled to hold a news conference later Friday afternoon.<\/p>\n
The World Sikh Organization of Canada said in a statement that it is \u201cdeeply troubled\u201d by the incident and said it involved the desecration of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, the central holy scripture of Sikhism.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are deeply troubled by what has happened at Nanaksar Gurdwara this morning, but unfortunately we cannot say that we are surprised,\u201d Danish Singh, president of the World Sikh Organization of Canada, said in a statement.<\/p>\n
