Showers and thunderstorms will continue to tap into this ample moisture to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theweathernetwork.com\/en\/news\/weather\/severe\/what-is-a-flash-flood-a-civil-engineer-explains\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">produce very heavy rainfall<\/a> throughout the region on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>The band of heavy rain is forecast to stretch northwest into Newfoundland, including Port-aux-Basque, Ramea, and the Burin Peninsula.<\/p>\n<p><img url=\"\/\/images.twnmm.com\/c55i45ef3o2a\/2pSzOU2Rem3YlNpFZoIhoJ\/bac87173a92b4c003a3deb91aced2ddc\/Atlantic_Canada_forecast_storms_Monday_afternoon_-_Aug._24__2026.png\" alt=\"Atlantic Canada forecast storms Monday afternoon - Aug. 24, 2026\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-nimg=\"fill\" style=\"position:absolute;height:100%;width:100%;left:0;top:0;right:0;bottom:0;object-fit:contain;object-position:center center;color:transparent\"   src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/Atlantic_Canada_forecast_storms_Monday_afternoon_-_Aug._24__2026.png\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Under this band, areas east of Halifax, up to Sydney, could see an additional 20-30 mm of rainfall throughout the day.<\/p>\n<p>The rain is forecast to continue into Tuesday for the Maritimes, and into Wednesday for Newfoundland. In fact, parts of Newfoundland could see 40-70 mm of rainfall by the end of Wednesday. Remember, never try to drive across a flooded roadway. It\u2019s impossible to tell how deep the water is until it\u2019s too late, and it takes surprisingly little water to lift a car off the road.<\/p>\n<p><img url=\"\/\/images.twnmm.com\/c55i45ef3o2a\/4ohhEb6cDrRkakPLXhr6vB\/042f9736fa8e13d33768fa2a1b0ee3cf\/Atlantic_Canada_forecast_rain_totals_through_Wednesday_-_Aug._24__2026.png\" alt=\"Atlantic Canada forecast rain totals through Wednesday - Aug. 24, 2026\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-nimg=\"fill\" style=\"position:absolute;height:100%;width:100%;left:0;top:0;right:0;bottom:0;object-fit:contain;object-position:center center;color:transparent\"   src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/Atlantic_Canada_forecast_rain_totals_through_Wednesday_-_Aug._24__2026.png\"\/>Keeping an eye on tropical activity<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s been a quiet season for tropical storms in the Atlantic Basin, but <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theweathernetwork.com\/en\/news\/weather\/forecasts\/forecasters-watching-a-dozen-tropical-features-in-the-pacific-and-atlantic\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">that may change<\/a> as forecasters watch two areas that may potentially develop into tropical systems.<\/p>\n<p>The first area, southeast of Bermuda, could become a short-lived sub-tropical storm in the next day or so and bring heavy rainfall to eastern Newfoundland by the midweek as it weakens into a regular low-pressure system.<\/p>\n<p>The second area of interest to forecasters is just beginning to push off Africa&#8217;s west coast.
