{"id":183733,"date":"2026-08-26T10:57:14","date_gmt":"2026-08-26T10:57:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/183733\/"},"modified":"2026-08-26T10:57:14","modified_gmt":"2026-08-26T10:57:14","slug":"canada-born-sports-brasserie-la-cage-to-make-uk-debut","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/183733\/","title":{"rendered":"Canada-born sports brasserie La Cage to make UK debut"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph b-article-body-skinny\">Set to open early next month on Kensington High Street, the restaurant will serve Canadian-inspired food and cocktails alongside live sport.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph b-article-body-skinny\">Founded in Montreal in 1984, La Cage is billed by Groupe Grandio as a Quebec institution and operates nearly 40 restaurants across the province.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph b-article-body-skinny\">It made its international debut in 2023 with an opening in Bordeaux-B\u00e8gles, France, and launched a second French restaurant in Aix-en-Provence earlier this year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph b-article-body-skinny\">The London opening will mark La Cage\u2019s debut in an English-speaking market, with the Kensington restaurant intended to serve as a flagship for its wider international expansion.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph b-article-body-skinny\">Set across two floors, the venue has been designed to accommodate the capital\u2019s \u201cmany different sporting allegiances\u201d, with areas that can be adapted to show multiple fixtures simultaneously.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph b-article-body-skinny\">The menu will include Quebec classics such as poutine alongside 24-hour smoked beef short rib with creamy polenta; a smoked short rib burger with Jarlsberg and maple bacon; and rib-eye steak seasoned with Montreal steak spice.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph b-article-body-skinny\">Other dishes will include lobster rolls, Montreal-style hot honey pizza and beavertails \u2013 fried pastries served with cinnamon sugar, maple ice cream and dark chocolate sauce.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph b-article-body-skinny\">The Canadian influence will continue behind the bar with a Montreal mule made with Canadian Club whisky, ginger and maple syrup; a maple Old Fashioned; and a Montreal spritz combining maple whisky, Aperol, cava and black cherry bitters.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph b-article-body-skinny\">La Cage will also serve a Montreal Caesar made with vodka, Clamato, Montreal spice and maple bacon, alongside Canadian beers including Molson Canadian and Moosehead.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph b-article-body-skinny\">\u201cLondon felt like the right place for the next chapter of La Cage,\u201d says Jean B\u00e9dard, president and chief executive of Groupe Grandio.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph b-article-body-skinny\">\u201cLa Cage has always been about much more than watching a game \u2013 it\u2019s the food, the drinks, the people you\u2019re with and the atmosphere around it.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph b-article-body-skinny\">\u201cLondon is our first step into an English-speaking market and an opportunity to introduce the brand to a completely new audience. We have big ambitions internationally, but our focus right now is Kensington.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph b-article-body-skinny\">Groupe Grandio employs around 4,300 people across more than 60 locations.
