Montreal-area motorists are facing a difficult weekend on the roads, with major closures planned on the Samuel-De Champlain Bridge and the D\u00e9carie Expressway at the same time.<\/p>\n
The Samuel-De Champlain Bridge will be completely closed northbound toward Montreal from 11 p.m. Friday, Aug. 28, until 5 a.m. Monday, Aug. 31.<\/p>\n
The closure is needed for road repair work. Highway 15 North will also be closed from Exit 6, and access from Route 132 to Highway 15 North will be blocked.<\/p>\n

No northbound traffic will be able to access the bridge during the closure.<\/p>\n
The recommended detour will take drivers along Route 132 East, Route 134, and across the Jacques-Cartier Bridge.<\/p>\n
Motorists are being encouraged to avoid the area during busy periods and consider public transit or working from home where possible.<\/p>\n
The Champlain Bridge closure will overlap with major work on the D\u00e9carie Expressway.<\/p>\n
Northbound Highway 15 will be closed between Jean-Talon Street and the entrance from Par\u00e9 Street from 10:30 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Monday. The entrance from \u00c9douard-Montpetit Boulevard to northbound Highway 15 will also be closed.<\/p>\n
The D\u00e9carie work involves repairs to beams supporting the Des Jockeys and Ferrier street overpasses.<\/p>\n
For drivers, the timing means two major northbound routes into Montreal will be restricted during the same weekend.<\/p>\n
Traffic normally using the Champlain Bridge could be pushed toward the Jacques-Cartier Bridge, while drivers looking for an alternative route through Montreal will also face restrictions on D\u00e9carie.<\/p>\n
West Island motorists are also dealing with ongoing work farther west on Highway 40 and the \u00cele-aux-Tourtes Bridge.<\/p>\n
The long-term project involves maintenance and reconstruction of the \u00cele-aux-Tourtes Bridge and rehabilitation work on Highway 40. Lane configurations continue to change as construction progresses, with drivers travelling between the West Island and Vaudreuil-Dorion facing regular restrictions.<\/p>\n
Overnight Highway 40 closures are also part of the continuing work in the Senneville and Vaudreuil-Dorion area.<\/p>\n

The Highway 40 and \u00cele-aux-Tourtes work will continue to affect West Island traffic beyond the weekend.<\/p>\n
MTQ Ile aux Tourtes<\/p>\n
The \u00cele-aux-Tourtes project is expected to continue for several years. A new bridge is being built alongside the existing structure, with the new span expected to open in 2027.<\/p>\n
Once completed, the new bridge is expected to provide three lanes in each direction.<\/p>\n
For now, however, drivers are being asked to plan around the construction.<\/p>\n
With the Champlain Bridge and D\u00e9carie both affected this weekend, motorists are advised to check traffic conditions before leaving, allow extra travel time and follow temporary detour signs.<\/p>\n
Drivers heading between the South Shore, Montreal and the West Island should be prepared for delays and consider changing their travel times if possible.<\/p>\n
