GoFundMe<\/a> supporting the family of a 15-year-old boy critically injured in a fire at a Wingham high school has raised nearly $70,000.<\/p>\nThe fundraiser, launched by family members Jenn and Shannon, is intended to help cover travel and essential expenses for the boy\u2019s parents so they can focus entirely on being with their son during his recovery. Organizers say any contribution is appreciated and that sharing the campaign is also encouraged. They note the initiative is community-led and not affiliated with the school or school board due to policy restrictions.<\/p>\n
The teen remains in serious, critical condition following Tuesday morning\u2019s incident at F.E. Madill Secondary School.<\/p>\n
In a message shared with media, his mother described the community support as overwhelming and appreciated, adding the family is taking the situation hour by hour. She is also urging parents to remind their children they are loved and to promote kindness toward others.<\/p>\n
Emergency crews were called to the school after reports of a person on fire. The student was airlifted to a trauma centre with life-threatening injuries. Police say the school was evacuated and the fire was quickly extinguished.<\/p>\n
The Avon Maitland District School Board confirmed a student was injured and noted some students witnessed the incident. Supports continue to be offered, and families are being urged not to share videos or unverified information.<\/p>\n
The school has been closed since Wednesday, with students learning online. Officials say it is expected to reopen sometime next week pending final assessments.<\/p>\n
