EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) – WEAU\u2019s Maddy at the Movies is covering the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), taking place September 10-20. The robust program, which you can find here<\/a>, has quite a few titles Maddy is hoping to see. She breaks a handful of them down below!<\/p>\n

\u201cTrash Mountain\u201d<\/p>\n

Celebrating its world premiere at TIFF, \u201cTrash Mountain\u201d is a dramedy about the relationship between siblings (Caleb Hearon, Zoey Deschanel) , returning home to Missouri to clean out their father\u2019s house after his passing.<\/p>\n

This one has been on my radar since I first heard about it\u2013I\u2019m a big fan of the drama\u2019s star, comedian Caleb Hearon, and have been listening to his podcast \u201cSo True.\u201d It doesn\u2019t matter who he has on the show, I could listen to Hearon talk about anything and everything. I\u2019m excited to see him in a more dramatic, lead turn, having only seen him as the flamboyant Palmer in \u201cSweethearts.\u201d My fingers are crossed that I can get my hands on this one!<\/p>\n

\u201cCheyenne\u201d<\/p>\n

Also world premiering, \u201cCheyenne\u201d is a documentary detailing the world of women\u2019s bronco riding, a sport that they were excluded from until recently.<\/p>\n

Documentary is a drama I don\u2019t frequent often, but always like when it\u2019s a subject I\u2019m curious about or interested in. \u201cCheyenne\u201d scratches this itch; I\u2019d like to see what the experience is like for women in that industry, since they\u2019ve been excluded for so long.<\/p>\n

\u201cHALF\u201d<\/p>\n

Action film \u201cHALF\u201d takes you on a road trip through the desert, accompanied by two twin half-vampires. Chaos ensues.<\/p>\n

I\u2019m a big Indian cinema fan (I worship at the altar of Shah Rukh Khan), but haven\u2019t really delved deeply into Indian horror; I think I\u2019ve only really seen two movies, \u201cStree\u201d and \u201cStree 2,\u201d that would fall into that category. I\u2019m excited to expand my experience in that area a bit, and \u201cHALF\u201d would be a good way to do that!<\/p>\n

Ken Russell\u2019s \u201cThe Devils\u201d<\/p>\n

Newly restored, director Ken Russell\u2019s \u201cThe Devils\u201d is a religious horror classic about a Catholic priest who is accused of witchcraft.<\/p>\n

I watched \u201cThe Devils\u201d for the first time back in 2021, and remember liking it. It\u2019s one of those movies that checks a lot of my boxes, and I think I\u2019ll like even more on rewatch. And now there\u2019s a new restoration? Time for a rewatch!<\/p>\n

\u201cLow Lies The Land\u201d<\/p>\n

Documentary \u201cLow Lies The Land\u201d follows three Italian families facing doubt in their family business: winemaking.<\/p>\n

Very similar vibe here for me as with \u201cCheyenne\u201d; I think this one just seems intriguing. I don\u2019t know anyone personally in the wine business, but do enjoy a glass here and there and would like to see what it\u2019s like behind the scenes. I think this one has the whole \u201cfamily legacy\u201d element too which would be interesting to explore.<\/p>\n

Maddy is working on reaching out to publicists to secure screeners. She\u2019ll publish a full recap near the end of the festival!<\/p>\n
