\u200bThe president made headlines on Thursday when he signed an executive order to rename the huge body of water<\/a>, which stretches into both the U.S. and Canada<\/a>, as \u201cLake America.\u201d<\/p>\n \u200bThe renaming is the latest escalation in a simmering dispute between Canada and the United States <\/a>following the collapse of trade talks between the two nations.<\/p>\n \u200bLater on Thursday, Hayes tore into Trump over a video<\/a> uploaded to the president\u2019s TikTok account in which he addressed the planned renaming.<\/p>\n \u200b\u201cThere\u2019s this old man sitting at his desk with a little Sharpie, reduced to a state of total delusion,\u201d Hayes said on MSNOW\u2019s All In<\/a>. \u201cI mean, just deeply pathetic.\u201d<\/p>\n \u200b\u201cI mean, pathetic in a way that almost kind of gave me the willies,\u201d Hayes blasted.<\/p>\n \u200bIn the video, Trump holds up a map of the lake and floats the idea of \u201cmaking a little change.\u201d Then, Trump brandishes one of his signature sharpies<\/a> and scribbles out the lake\u2019s name, writing \u201cLake America\u201d over the image.<\/p>\n \u201c\u2019If you\u2019re saying to yourself, \u2018That\u2019s crazy. He can\u2019t just rename a Great Lake by scribbling on a map,\u2019 you\u2019re right,\u201d Haynes said. \u201cToday, he scribbled his signature on an executive order<\/a> directing the Department of the Interior to update the lake\u2019s name on U.S. maps. This is what consumes the president of the United States.\u201d\u200b<\/p>\n \u200bThe proposed renaming follows the collapse of trade talks between the United States and Canada<\/a>, which has seen the former country impose 50 percent tariffs on $20 billion worth of goods<\/a> from the latter country.<\/p>\n \u200bLater, Canada revealed that it was imposing retaliatory tariffs <\/a>on some imports from the U.S.<\/p>\n \u200bThe collapse in talks came after Trump claimed earlier in August on Truth Social <\/a>that a deal had been reached by both countries, pending the \u201cfinalization of documents.\u201d<\/p>\n \u200bWhile signing the executive order to have the name of Lake Ontario changed<\/a>, Trump boasted about previously signing an order to rename the Gulf of Mexico<\/a> to the \u201cGulf of America.\u201d<\/p>\n \u200b\u201cNow, all we need is an ocean,\u201d the president said. \u201cSo, maybe we\u2019ll have to change the name of the Atlantic and\/or Pacific. Maybe we\u2019ll change them both.\u201d<\/p>\n Hayes also took a swipe at the president\u2019s plan to rename the vast Atlantic<\/a> and Pacific<\/a> oceans.<\/p>\n \u200b\u201cSure, buddy. Go ahead. Change them both,\u201d he said. \u201cChange them both to what? American Ocean One, American Ocean Two?\u201d<\/p>\n \u200bHayes added, \u201cKnock yourself out. Write all over the place with your Sharpie. You\u2019re doing great.\u201d<\/p>\n \u200bThe anchor concluded by taking aim at the president\u2019s previous move to rename the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America<\/a>, suggesting that \u201cnobody wants this.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cThat was a few weeks after returning to office when again, he was at his strongest, right?\u201d Hayes claimed. \u201c\u2018I am the king, and now it\u2019s Gulf of America.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cBut now Lake America?
