Canada responds: Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said the lake’s name predates both Canada and the U.S. as nations. He added<\/a>: “Canadians \u2060also know that naming reality means calling it Lake Ontario \u2014 then, now and always.” Slightly more than half of the surface area of Lake Ontario is in Canada.
