The Edmonton Police Service has issued a public precaution following harassment-related incidents involving a 33-year-old man at the University of Alberta campus.<\/p>\n
Police say a man attended the campus twice in March, where he demonstrated a pattern of concerning behaviour in public spaces, police said in a Friday news release. According to EPS, this included unwanted interactions with females that escalated to harassment and, at times, threatening or aggressive conduct. The man is known to police and has a history of similar interactions in other public spaces in Edmonton and other Canadian cities.<\/p>\n
Muhammad Ahmed has since been arrested and charged with unlawful interference with enjoyment of property (mischief) and two counts of failing to comply with conditions. He is now subject to a court order that includes staying away from the U of A campus.<\/p>\n
\u201cPolice would like to remind all members of the public to stay aware of their surroundings,\u201d said Acting Staff Sgt. Brian McGuigan, with the EPS Sexual Assault Section. \u201cAdditionally, if you suddenly find someone is engaging you in a threatening, aggressive or hostile manner, tell them clearly to leave you alone, and proceed to the closest, well-lit populated area before calling for help.\u201d<\/p>\n
EPS is asking anyone who sees Ahmed on campus or experiences a hostile interaction with him in a public space to contact police at 780-423-4567 or #377 from a mobile phone.<\/p>\n
