Last month, BC joined Saskatchewan and Yukon in saying goodbye to changing clocks for daylight savings, and it\u2019s starting to catch on! Now Alberta, Northwest Territories, and even Manitoba are thinking about making the switch to permanent time, too. Growing up in Saskatchewan, I didn\u2019t even realize the rest of the country had to reset their clocks! I just thought TV stations liked to mess with us for the start times of their shows. With Yukon making the move in 2020 and BC hopping on board this year, the idea of sticking to one time all year is picking up steam here in western Canada.<\/p>\n
BC is now always one hour behind Saskatchewan, matching Yukon\u2019s time. Alberta\u2019s working on passing legislation to keep their clocks the same as Saskatchewan year-round, and places like Lloydminster (right on the border) are probably thrilled about the end of time zone confusion. The Northwest Territories have already said they\u2019ll join Alberta if the law goes through, which could mean almost all of Western Canada will be done with \u201cspringing ahead\u201d and \u201cfalling back\u201d for good. Imagine how much easier life could be!<\/p>\n
After living in BC during a clock change, I can say personally that losing that one hour really does make a difference. I was groggy for weeks! The idea of a permanent time zone isn\u2019t just about convenience, it\u2019s about making life simpler and less stressful. Manitoba\u2019s premier, Wab Kinew, recently shared that experts are recommending Manitoba join Saskatchewan time too, which could mean the prairies will all be on the same schedule. If Alberta\u2019s legislation passes soon, we could see all of the western prairies united on one time! Personally, I\u2019m all for it. One of us! One of us! One of us!
