TORONTO \u2013 The Toronto Blue Jays claimed catcher Shawn Ross off waivers from the New York Mets on Saturday.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Ross was then optioned to triple-A Buffalo.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The 26-year-old \u00a0made his MLB debut with the Pittsburgh Pirates earlier this season, appearing in two contests at the MLB level before being claimed by the Mets.\u00a0<\/p>\n

In 70 games across the triple-A and double-A levels this season, Ross has a .184 batting average, 13 doubles, 11 home runs and 29 RBI, while throwing out 14 runners behind the plate.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Ross was signed by the Pirates as a non-drafted free agent in 2022 out of Clarendon Junior College. Over four seasons and 285 minor-league games in the Pirates and Mets systems, Ross has a .189 batting average, 39 doubles, 53 home runs and 148 RBI.<\/p>\n

Later in the day, Toronto recalled left-hander Ricky Tiedemann from Buffalo and placed right-hander Jameson Taillon on the 15-day injured list due to right elbow inflammation.<\/p>\n
