EDMONTON\u00a0\u2013 The University of Calgary Dinos men’s soccer team fell to a 3-0 defeat against the Alberta Golden Bears on Saturday at Foote Field.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Giorgio Artunduaga’s strike on the stroke of half-time and a second half brace from Justin George ensured the Dinos record to 1-1-0 in Canada West play, while the Golden Bears moved to a 1-0-0 record in their season opener.<\/p>\n
In a first half with few chances, Alberta broke the deadlock in style when Artunduaga’s strike from distance found the far corner of the net to give the visitors the lead. George doubled the lead four minutes into the second half, rising highest from Prince Amanda’s corner to head the ball home, and then put the game away in the 71st minute for his second goal of the afternoon.<\/p>\n
Calgary boasted the better of the stats, recording 9 shots on target to Alberta’s 8 over the course of the 90 minutes. The Dinos forced the Golden Bears goalie Trystan Read into action three times at the other end, however were unable to find the net.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The Dinos will return to action Sunday, Sept. 6, when they travel to face the MacEwan Griffins at 2:30 p.m. The game can be seen live on Canada West TV powered by BioSteel.<\/p>\n
Alberta will host the Mount Royal Cougars on Sunday, Sept. 6.<\/p>\n
