{"id":197851,"date":"2026-09-06T04:14:36","date_gmt":"2026-09-06T04:14:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/197851\/"},"modified":"2026-09-06T04:14:36","modified_gmt":"2026-09-06T04:14:36","slug":"man-25-dies-in-head-on-highway-2-crash-after-suv-suddenly-veered-manitoba-rcmp-say-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/197851\/","title":{"rendered":"Man, 25, dies in head-on Highway 2 crash after SUV &#8216;suddenly veered,&#8217; Manitoba RCMP say"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">A 25-year-old Winnipeg man died in a crash on Highway 2 near Oak Bluff on Tuesday after RCMP say the SUV he was driving &#8220;suddenly veered&#8221; into oncoming traffic.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The collision happened just west of the intersection with Highway 3 in the rural municipality of Macdonald at 6 p.m., Manitoba RCMP said in a news release Friday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Officers learned an SUV was headed east when it &#8220;suddenly veered&#8221; into oncoming traffic and collided head-on with a semi-truck.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The driver of the SUV, a 25-year-old Winnipeg man, was pronounced dead at the site, police say.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The two men in the semi-truck \u2014 the 32-year-old driver and his 28-year-old passenger \u2014 were treated for minor injuries nearby, RCMP said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The crash led to part of Highway 2 <a data-ylk=\"slk:being closed overnight;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas;\" data-yga=\"{&quot;yLinkElement&quot;:&quot;link&quot;,&quot;yLinkElementType&quot;:&quot;article_link&quot;}\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/canada\/manitoba\/highway-2-closed-crash-oak-bluff-9.7328969\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">being closed overnight<\/a>. The investigation into the collision continues.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">2 semi-trucks crash<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">A 43-year-old man was given a ticket for careless driving after an earlier crash just outside of Elie, which is west of Winnipeg, around 2 p.m. Tuesday, police said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The crash involved two semi-trucks in a westbound lane of the Trans-Canada Highway, near Road 11 West, in the rural municipality of Cartier, RCMP said in the same news release Friday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">One semi-truck was parked on the shoulder when it was hit by another that was heading west, police said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The parked semi-truck caught fire, and the other was heavily damaged in the crash.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The driver of the parked truck, a 56-year-old woman from La Broquerie, was not hurt, police said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The other driver, a 43-year-old Winnipeg man, was treated for minor injuries.
