{"id":19817,"date":"2026-04-25T23:38:59","date_gmt":"2026-04-25T23:38:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/19817\/"},"modified":"2026-04-25T23:38:59","modified_gmt":"2026-04-25T23:38:59","slug":"illegal-immigrant-with-alleged-ties-to-somali-piracy-arrested-near-us-canada-border-dhs-4","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/19817\/","title":{"rendered":"Illegal immigrant with alleged ties &#8216;to Somali piracy&#8217; arrested near US-Canada border: DHS"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>WASHINGTON (TNND) \u2014 U.S. authorities arrested an illegal immigrant with alleged ties &#8220;to Somali piracy&#8221; and an outstanding warrant on fraud-related charges after he was found near the U.S.-Canada border, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced. <\/p>\n<p>The agency identified him as Said Jama Ahmed. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Weak Biden Administration border policies allowed this illegal alien to enter and remain in the country despite his multiple law enforcement encounters,\u2019 Acting Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis said in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dhs.gov\/news\/2026\/04\/24\/dhs-announces-arrest-somali-illegal-alien-pirate\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"https:\/\/www.dhs.gov\/news\/2026\/04\/24\/dhs-announces-arrest-somali-illegal-alien-pirate\" class=\"themeColorForLinks\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">a statement<\/a> on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>DHS said Ahmed was taken into custody by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) after being spotted walking near the border. He is currently being held on a charge of illegal entry. <\/p>\n<p>Ahmed has a long record of United States military and law enforcement encounters, according to the statement.<\/p>\n<p>DHS said Ahmed faces an arrest warrant related to alleged passport fraud and that his fingerprints match those collected in a 2012 U.S. Navy operation involving suspected Somali pirates in the Gulf of Aden. During that incident, a Navy boarding team encountered Ahmed and &#8220;nine other armed pirates who had taken the Indian ship hostage by force.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p>According to DHS, Ahmed first entered the U.S. in 2022 near San Luis, Arizona.
