Plane flying from Springbank airport to Campbell River, B.C. crashed in K-Country Saturday morning<\/p>\n

KANANASKIS COUNTRY \u2013 RCMP say two people died in a plane crash in Kananaskis Country Saturday morning (Sept. 5).<\/p>\n
Emergency crews responded around 9:20 a.m. after an aircraft crashed in the Mount McDougall area.<\/p>\n
Liam MacDonald, a spokesperson for the Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB), said in an email it\u00a0was a Cirrus SR22 \u2013 a single-engine, four- to five-seat plane.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt departed 5 Sept 2026 on an instrument flight from Springbank, AB, to Campbell River, BC. The aircraft departed just after 8:50am MT and impacted terrain approximately 30 nm [nautical miles southwest] SW of the airport at approximately 09:15 MT,\u201d MacDonald said.<\/p>\n
RCMP did not provide further information about the two people who died and referred additional questions to the TSB, which is investigating the accident.<\/p>\n
MacDonald said the TSB is currently coordinating with local authorities. However, investigators have not yet been able to reach the site.<\/p>\n
\u201cWeather and location are inhibiting our ability to reach the site,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
RCMP said that onlookers\u00a0observed an aircraft spiralling this morning in the Elbow-Sheep Wildland Provincial Park area.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Search and rescue and other emergency personnel responded alongside RCMP.<\/p>\n
Blake Robert, spokesperson for STARS, said a helicopter was dispatched but was not required and returned to base.<\/p>\n
The Evan-Thomas day use area and parking lot is closed while an investigation and recovery is underway.<\/p>\n
