{"id":199027,"date":"2026-09-07T12:55:07","date_gmt":"2026-09-07T12:55:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/199027\/"},"modified":"2026-09-07T12:55:07","modified_gmt":"2026-09-07T12:55:07","slug":"saskatchewan-employment-grows-as-canada-loses-jobs-in-august","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/199027\/","title":{"rendered":"Saskatchewan employment grows as Canada loses jobs in August"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Saskatchewan added 2,600 jobs in August, bucking a national trend that saw employment decline by nearly 42,000 jobs across Canada.<\/p>\n<p>The province&#8217;s unemployment rate was 6.0 per cent in August, the third-lowest among the provinces and below the national rate of 6.4 per cent.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Saskatchewan&#8217;s strong, steady economy continues to outpace the rest of Canada,&#8221; Immigration and Career Training Minister Eric Schmalz said. &#8220;By working with industry and supporting workers, we are building the workforce our economy needs today and into the future.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Related Stories:<\/p>\n<p>Private sector leads job growth<\/p>\n<p>The province&#8217;s private sector recorded significant growth, adding 18,200 jobs compared with August 2025. That represents a 4.9 per cent year-over-year increase.<\/p>\n<p>Construction was among the sectors posting the largest gains, adding 6,100 jobs for a 12.2 per cent increase compared with the same month last year.<\/p>\n<p>Manufacturing employment increased by 4,900 jobs, an 18.3 per cent year-over-year increase, while the finance, insurance, real estate and leasing sector added 3,500 jobs, representing an 11.8 per cent increase.<\/p>\n<p>Employment rises in Saskatoon and Regina<\/p>\n<p>Saskatchewan&#8217;s two largest cities also recorded employment gains compared with August 2025.<\/p>\n<p>Employment in Saskatoon increased by 1,300 jobs, a 0.6 per cent rise year over year.<\/p>\n<p>Regina saw a larger increase, with employment up by 5,000 jobs, or 3.3 per cent, compared with August 2025.<\/p>\n<p>Housing and investment growth<\/p>\n<p>The province also continues to report growth in other areas of the economy.<\/p>\n<p>Saskatchewan ranked second among the provinces for year-over-year growth in urban housing starts and first for month-over-month growth in building permits.<\/p>\n<p>The provincial government says the economic gains are supported by its Building the Workforce for a Growing Economy: The Saskatchewan Labour Market Strategy, which provides a roadmap for developing the workforce needed to support the province&#8217;s growing economy.<\/p>\n<p>The government is also advancing its Securing the Next Decade of Growth: Saskatchewan&#8217;s Investment Attraction Strategy, which aims to increase investment in the province and advance the Saskatchewan Growth Plan&#8217;s goal of attracting $16 billion in private capital investment annually.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Saskatchewan added 2,600 jobs in August, bucking a national trend that saw employment decline by nearly 42,000 jobs&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":199028,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[2],"tags":[17],"class_list":["post-199027","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-canada","tag-canada"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/199027","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=199027"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/199027\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/199028"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=199027"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=199027"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=199027"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
