{"id":199043,"date":"2026-09-07T13:11:58","date_gmt":"2026-09-07T13:11:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/199043\/"},"modified":"2026-09-07T13:11:58","modified_gmt":"2026-09-07T13:11:58","slug":"busy-toronto-roadway-gets-much-needed-repairs-road-crews-also-repaired-other-city-streets-this-summer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/199043\/","title":{"rendered":"Busy Toronto roadway gets much needed repairs; road crews also repaired other city streets this summer"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last March, several drivers reached out to Speakers Corner asking us to visit what they argued was the worst street in the city when it came to potholes.<\/p>\n<p>Deep craters dotted a long portion of Unwin Avenue, which runs from Cherry Beach to Tommy Thompson Park.\u00a0The roadway, and pavement had been eroded entirely, which left several vehicles with costly repair bills.<\/p>\n<p>It is now a very different story.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs you can see now, we couldn\u2019t be happier,\u201d said Jason Singh, one of the several people who asked us to look into the problems there last spring.<\/p>\n<p>Weeks after CityNews\u2019 report on the conditions of the roadway, City crews not only repaired the road, they repaved it completely.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey actually got it done way ahead of the deadline they told you when you reached out,\u201d Singh said, citing a statement the City gave CityNews at the time of our report that the repairs would not take place until September.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCity staff were able to accelerate and complete the repaving of Unwin Avenue from Cherry Street to the Unwin Bridge through co-ordinating maintenance and repair activities that included road grading, ditch improvements, and road resurfacing work,\u201d a City spokesperson told us when we followed up.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s one of many projects City road crews say they\u2019ve worked to fix this summer after a brutal winter took its\u00a0toll on streets and roadways.<\/p>\n<p>As of September, 206,948 pot holes have been filled across the city \u2013 far more than the 202,250 that were filled in all of last year.
