Trade<\/p>\n
Canada\u2019s counter-tariffs are set to take effect on Tuesday on nearly $28 billion worth of U.S. products. Prime Minister Mark Carney announced the tit-for-tat measures after trade talks with the United States broke down last month and the Americans imposed fresh tariffs on some $28 billion in Canadian goods.<\/p>\n
Financial conference<\/p>\n
Scotiabank will hold its annual global banking and markets financial summit starting on Wednesday. The meeting, which is expected to hear from top executives from across the banking and financial services sector, comes as worries about the Canadian economy are on the rise with the escalating trade war with the United States.<\/p>\n
Transat results<\/p>\n
Transat A.T. Inc. will release its third-quarter results and hold a conference call with investors and financial analysts on Thursday morning. The company said last month it was in talks with the federal government \u201cto explore potential solutions\u201d after it paid more than ever for jet fuel in its third quarter due to the ripple effects of the Iran war.<\/p>\n
Empire earnings<\/p>\n
Empire Co. Ltd. will release its first-quarter results and hold its annual meeting on Thursday. The grocer, whose banners include Sobeys, Safeway, FreshCo and Farm Boy, has been moving to open more stores over the next three years and expand its pharmacy footprint.<\/p>\n
Auto talks<\/p>\n
Unifor has set Friday as an internal deadline to reach a tentative agreement with U.S. automaker Stellantis. The union is worried about the future of the company\u2019s assembly plant in Brampton, Ont., which has been idled since 2023.<\/p>\n
