{"id":199713,"date":"2026-09-08T00:59:08","date_gmt":"2026-09-08T00:59:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/199713\/"},"modified":"2026-09-08T00:59:08","modified_gmt":"2026-09-08T00:59:08","slug":"baghaei-canada-complicit-in-us-lawbreaking-against-iran","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/199713\/","title":{"rendered":"Baghaei: Canada Complicit in US Lawbreaking Against Iran"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>WANA (Sep 08) \u2013 Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman <a href=\"https:\/\/wanaen.com\/baghaei-says-it-will-respond-to-any-ill-advised-move-by-us-and-european-states\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Esmail Baghaei<\/a> has described Canada\u2019s support for US economic and interventionist measures against Iran as \u201ccomplicity in lawbreaking and a distortion of facts,\u201d criticizing Ottawa\u2019s position on developments in the region.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In a statement early Tuesday, September 8, Baghaei responded to a joint statement by Canada\u2019s foreign affairs and finance ministers, saying Ottawa could not portray itself as a defender of \u201cpeace and security,\u201d \u201cfreedom of navigation\u201d and \u201cinternational law\u201d while simultaneously supporting US military actions and what he described as Washington\u2019s unlawful and interventionist measures in the region.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Baghaei also referred to recent US positions toward Canada, saying that on the same day the US president had disregarded Canada\u2019s sovereignty and independence by depicting the country as part of US territory, Canadian officials had once again chosen to make concessions to Washington\u2014this time by issuing a statement against Iran that, in his words, distorted the facts.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Canada\u2019s Position on the Strait of Hormuz<\/p>\n<p>In their joint statement, Canada\u2019s foreign affairs and finance ministers accused Iran of actions that they said threatened global peace and security and freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
