WINNIPEG, MB, Sept. 8, 2026 \/CNW\/ — Building a strong Canada starts with investing in the modern and reliable infrastructure that makes it possible to increase housing supply and create resilient communities. <\/p>\n

The Build Communities Strong Fund is investing\u00a0$51 billion in a wide range of infrastructure projects across the country that support economic prosperity, housing, sport, education, health, transit, and climate adaptation. <\/p>\n

The federal government is investing more than $2.1 million in a new soccer facility and upgrades to the Ralph Cantafio Soccer Complex through the Direct Delivery stream of the Build Communities Strong Fund. <\/p>\n

The investment will support the construction of a professional-grade modular stadium for Northern Super League (NSL) matches, high-level soccer, and community events, while continuing to support Winnipeg Soccer Federation programming and creating a lasting community asset for athletes, families, and residents. It will also help position Winnipeg to welcome an NSL club as Canada’s professional women’s soccer league expands. <\/p>\n

The Build Communities Strong Fund is a cornerstone of the Government of Canada’s plan to build the infrastructure needed to build Canada strong \u2013 today and for generations to come.\u00a0 <\/p>\n

The federal government is investing up to $2,125,000 in this project through the Direct Delivery stream of the Build Communities Strong Fund. Project funding is anticipated to include $750,000 from the Province of Manitoba, $600,000 from the City of Winnipeg and $5,025,000 from Northern Super League. <\/p>\n

The project includes construction of a new multi-use community sports facility with a capacity of approximately 5,000 spectators, including accessible seating. The facility will include grandstands, a roof, suites, team facilities, food and beverage services, washrooms, and a standing terrace. <\/p>\n

Starting in 2026-27, the Build Communities Strong Fund will deliver funding through three major streams: <\/p>\n

A Provincial and Territorial stream<\/a>, which provides $17.2 billion over 10 years, including $5 billion in health infrastructure funding over three years; <\/p>\n

A\u00a0Direct Delivery stream<\/a>, which provides $6 billion over 10 years, including $1 billion over 4 years as part of a\u00a0Local Impact Stream<\/a>\u00a0that is being delivered by Canada’s Regional Development Agencies to support community infrastructure projects with local impact; and, <\/p>\n

A\u00a0Community stream<\/a>\u00a0(formerly the Canada Community-Building Fund), which provides $27.8 billion over 10 years and, indexed at 2% to deliver $3 billion per year ongoing. <\/p>\n

The Buy Canadian Policy<\/a>\u00a0is an important part of the Build Communities Strong Fund. It will help ensure that more of every public dollar goes right into the Canadian economy \u2013 creating Canadian careers, using Canadian resources, and benefiting Canadian communities. <\/p>\n

The Build Communities Strong Fund will be a force multiplier in infrastructure \u2013 with funding that will be matched by nearly $17 billion from provinces, and additional billions leveraged through municipal and territorial partnerships as well as private capital.\u00a0The fund will also boost Canada’s GDP by $95 billion over the next decade.\u00a0 <\/p>\n

Under the Direct Delivery stream, at least 10% of the funding will go towards investments in Indigenous communities. <\/p>\n

Project funding is subject to the signing of a contribution agreement between the Government of Canada and the recipient. <\/p>\n

Federal funding is conditional on fulfilling requirements, including those related to consultation with Indigenous peoples and environmental assessment obligations, if applicable. <\/p>\n
