While he must wait for more information to \u201csee what happens next,\u201d he plans to remain in office, though he will scale back his public activities.<\/p>\n<p>In a social media post, Boyer explained that he had been experiencing headaches and visual disturbances for several months, which prompted him to undergo an MRI of his brain.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe diagnosis is in: a meningioma, a brain tumour,\u201d he revealed. \u201cMost of these tumors are benign, but I have to wait for my upcoming appointments with a neurosurgeon to find out what happens next.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Boyer announced that he will scale back his public activities this fall to take care of himself, but he indicated that he will continue to fulfill his duties as mayor and attend all working meetings.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI feel fine, my energy levels are excellent, and I retain all my abilities,\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile I don\u2019t yet have answers to all my questions, I know one thing: I want to continue to be involved in my city,\u201d he said, adding that \u201cthere is no greater joy in life than sharing my daily life with those around me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He concluded by saying that he is moving forward \u201cwith serenity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Provincial party leaders were quick to express their support for the mayor of Laval, wishing him well and urging him to take care of his health.<\/p>\n<p>Outgoing Premier and leader of the Coalition Avenir Qu\u00e9bec, Christine Fr\u00e9chette, wished him \u201cmuch courage and strength to get through the next steps.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEvery day, you stand up for your people, your citizens, and your community. Come back to us in good health,\u201d said the leader of the Parti Qu\u00e9b\u00e9cois.<\/p>\n<p>Noting that the news came as \u201ca shock,\u201d Qu\u00e9bec solidaire spokesperson Ruba Ghazal expressed her hope that \u201cthis ordeal will be short-lived.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou are a courageous and kind person\u2014that\u2019s what you demonstrate in the work you do for the people of Laval,\u201d she said in a message on X.<\/p>\n<p>Boyer has been mayor of Laval since 2021. Elected at age 33, he became the youngest mayor in the city\u2019s history.
