Plans to knock down a car showroom in Derby and build a block of student flats have been given the go-ahead.<\/p>\n
Derby City Council approved a planning application to redevelop the site in Monk Street into a block of flats that would be six storeys tall at its highest point.<\/p>\n
According to planning documents, the proposed development would consist of 102 rooms for students.<\/p>\n
A report submitted by applicant Monk Street Ltd said the proposals would “relieve pressure” on housing needs in the city and would meet a growing need for high-quality student accommodation.<\/p>\n
According to the plans, the development would range from three to six storeys in height and consist of 16 cluster flats.<\/p>\n
“Our aim is to create a prominent landmark building that will play a vital role in Derby’s future development,” a report submitted by the applicant stated.<\/p>\n
It added the scheme had been designed to avoid “adverse overshadowing” and would be in an “extremely sustainable” location.<\/p>\n
Planning documents said the proposed development would be “car-free” apart from disabled parking, and stated the location had “excellent transport links”.<\/p>\n
