The NBA board of governors has approved the league\u2019s expansion into Seattle and Las Vegas, bringing the NBA\u2019s teams from 30 to 32.<\/p>\n
Despite the success of the Toronto Tempo, National Basketball Association (NBA) Commissioner Adam Silver says there are no plans for the league to expand to Canada.<\/p>\n
During Sunday\u2019s playoff game between the Toronto Raptors and Cleveland Cavaliers, Silver was questioned by reporters from The Sports Network (TSN) on whether any major players from Canada have spoken with him regarding the NBA\u2019s incoming expansion.<\/p>\n
Silver recognized the interest, responding,\u201cWe have been over the years, whether it\u2019s returning to Vancouver, whether it\u2019s Montreal, Quebec, there\u2019s so much interest in this country now.\u201d<\/p>\n
But he squashed any rumours that the NBA will add a second team to Canada, saying, \u201cObviously we started in Toronto and Vancouver. It\u2019s not in the immediate plans.\u201d<\/p>\n
This question likely came up for two reasons.<\/p>\n
Firstly, the Women\u2019s National Basketball Association (WNBA) announced the Toronto Tempo as its first Canadian expansion team in 2024, gaining the league a new market and new fans.\u00a0<\/p>\n
