{"id":25215,"date":"2026-04-29T21:54:17","date_gmt":"2026-04-29T21:54:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/25215\/"},"modified":"2026-04-29T21:54:17","modified_gmt":"2026-04-29T21:54:17","slug":"quebec-will-manage-worker-training-programs-frechette-tells-ottawa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/25215\/","title":{"rendered":"Quebec will manage worker training programs, Fr\u00e9chette tells Ottawa"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>BEAUCEVILLE \u2014 The premier of Quebec, <a href=\"https:\/\/montrealgazette.com\/news\/provincial-news\/provincial-politics\/christine-frechette-sworn-in-as-quebec-premier-promises-to-govern-with-ambition-and-determination\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Christine Fr\u00e9chette<\/a>, is reminding the federal government that labour training is a provincial jurisdiction and not under the control of Ottawa.<\/p>\n<p>But she said she believes Ottawa and Quebec can come to an agreement over the issue.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will be working and communicating with the federal government,\u201d Fr\u00e9chette told reporters following an economic announcement in the Beauce region.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn fact, I established contact this morning with minister Champagne to say this is Quebec\u2019s jurisdiction and it needs to be considered and part of what the Quebec government will manage.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Her comments come after the federal government announced plans to build up Canada\u2019s skilled trades with $6 billion over five years to recruit, train and hire up to 100,000 new trade workers.<\/p>\n<p>The plan was announced by federal Finance Minister Fran\u00e7ois-Philippe Champagne.<\/p>\n<p>In theory, if an agreement is reached, Quebec\u2019s share of the pie would be about $200 million for 2026.
