Toronto FC fans have come to dread the weekly MLS Player Status Report before each match, and on Friday evening it again was not kind to the Reds.<\/p>\n

Ten \u2014 yes, ten \u2014 Toronto FC players are listed as out or questionable for Saturday\u2019s match due to injury. Two of the names are new to the list, with Josh Sargent (thigh) questionable to take part and Jules-Anthony Vilsaint the latest player to be ruled out with a groin injury.<\/p>\n

Benjamin Kuscevic and Matheus Pereira are both out with groin problems, Jose Cifuentes and Theo Corbeanu are out because of their knees, Nicksoen Gomis is on the mend from a long-term Achilles injury, Henry Wingo and Richie Laryea have thigh injuries, and Djordje Mihailovic has a stress fracture on his pelvis. <\/p>\n

Kuscevic and Cifuentes went down with injuries in Toronto\u2019s loss to Atlanta last weekend.<\/p>\n

Sargent and Vilsaint\u2019s injuries were not known publicly prior to the report coming out, and head coach Robin Fraser \u2014 who spoke this week about injuries making it difficult to find a rhythm with his group<\/a> \u2014 did not mention them when asked on Thursday if there were any new ailments.<\/p>\n

In more positive news for the Reds, Walker Zimmerman is available for selection again after missing the last match to be with his wife, who gave birth to their third child. <\/p>\n

Earthquakes star Timo Werner is also listed as out for Saturday\u2019s match after suffering an injury in a US Open Cup match midweek. Vitor Costa, Earl Edwards and Dejuan Jones are also out for San Jose, all with \u201clower body\u201d injuries.<\/p>\n

With the FIFA World Cup now less than six weeks away, Toronto FC is turning Saturday\u2019s match into the \u2018True North Match,\u2019 a one-day celebration of the Canadian men\u2019s national team before BMO Field officially becomes a World Cup venue this June.<\/p>\n

The stadium is set to host Canada\u2019s opening World Cup match on June 12 against Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Saturday afternoon versus the San Jose Earthquakes will serve as a symbolic passing of the torch from club football to the international game.<\/p>\n

Toronto FC general manager Jason Hernandez said BMO Field has already been the site of some of the biggest moments in Canadian soccer history, from Toronto\u2019s 2017 treble to Canada ending its long World Cup absence in 2022. Now, he believes another major chapter is about to begin in the same building.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis city has witnessed historic moments at BMO Field that have defined our passion for soccer, including TFC\u2019s historic treble-winning season in 2017, Canada\u2019s qualification to the FIFA World Cup in 2022 for the first time in 36 years, and many more\u00a0milestones\u00a0that have taken place here on this pitch,\u201d Hernandez said in a club statement. \u201cIt is an honour to hand the keys to BMO Field to the Canada Soccer men\u2019s national team.\u201d<\/p>\n

Before kickoff, club officials and Canada Soccer representatives will take part in a ceremony at midfield that includes Canada Soccer CEO Kevin Blue, BMO chief marketing officer Catherine Roche, and former Toronto FC captain Jimmy Brennan,\u00a0who played 49 times for the CanMNT.<\/p>\n

Supporters inside the ground will also get a first look at a new \u201cFor Club and Country\u201d merchandise line, designed to blend Toronto FC identity with national team pride. The club is advertising that a limited selection will be available in-stadium before the wider collection launches the following week.<\/p>\n
